Barbed Club of Pain (in the works)

$

I'm creating a new Club for BG because I think it's lacking a weapon for my evil Cleric/Thief (assassin).

Barbed Club of Pain

Unidentified description:

Most clubs are stout, hardwood sticks, narrow at the grip and wider at the end. This one is very light weight and slim, so it’s easy to handle but can’t do much damage. Only the metal pieces in it, make it appear dangerous. Anyone can find a good stout piece of wood and swing it; hence the club's widespread use.

Identified description:
A Loviatan priest from the Resting Place of the Whip in Melvaunt created the Barbed Club of Pain to use as an offhand weapon beside his whip. It was used as a reward for an allied Bhaalist assassin who did a unknown job for the temple. It is used for several assassinations after that, leaving distinct marks on the bodies. It’s not an efficient weapon for a one-hit backstab kill, but a successful hit with the club causes so much pain and bleeding that a victim will die within a few minutes.

The club is made from a simple slim stick, compared to most clubs around. The slim size and low weight make it easy to handle. It looks like small metal barbs grew out of the wood, they are created with magic from the priest. When the club strikes, sharp barbs dig into the victim's flesh, causing extreme pain and even extra damage that continues for some time after the blow.

Can someone look to the sentences of the last part. I’m nonnative English, so it’s a little fuzzy.
Stats
Item value ??? GP

Weight 3 lbs.
Identify ??

Combat
Combat type Melee
Proficiency Type Clubs
Handing 1-handed
Damage 1d4 +1, +2 bleeding damage/round, lasting two rounds.
THACO +1 bonus
Damage type Crushing
Speed 4

Minimum requirements
Strength 3
Usable All (even mages)
Other thoughts:
Cold iron or silver for greater werewolfs/wolfweres? Loviatar and Malar are Allies so not likely.

Poison? Bleeding is better. Why? Loviatar likes pain and suffering. Poison is better suited for Talona (who is an enemy of Loviatar)

1d4 why? Because it will easily become a very overpowered weapon. It’s now a lightweight stick, instead of a thick club.

+1 Thac0 an damage why? Because it’s easier to handle (like the masterwork items in IWD) the +1 damage will maybe get lost if it’s to overpowered.

Where to place it? Maybe an encounter with a priest?

Progress:
The weapon works
Bleeding damage works (copied from Valygars blade)
Bleeding icon works on Imoen

Description not jet in dialog.tlk
name and icons from normal clus used (I think i have to use IWD or BG2 files, because BG lacks icons.
It says Imoen: poisoned if i hit her.

If you could find "exploits" in real life, would you ever use them for yourself???

Even if they were unethical, unlawful, taking advantage of others or their weaknesses or their weak spots? I am referring to everything and anything that could apply here. Especially making others follow your whims, with or without them noticing and understanding the whole thing. Essentially, the old quote: "The purpose consecrates the means".

I do not speak of cheating, or blackmailing or evil and illegal acts. But of subtle actions performed by you, in order to discreetly and passively manipulate others, towards whatever it is you want them to do, and they themselves normally wouldn't...

IF you could discover a method for this, would you ever utilize it? Of course, NOT to harm others, but to take advantage of them, instead. STRICTLY without putting them to risk or danger, that is.

As of late, i managed to find myself some certain, nice exploits. And i use them carefully and responsibly. Like a chaotic neutral person that i am...

EE Keeper for OS X via Wineskin -- UPDATED to 1.0.2.4

$

Hello all,

I've created a Wineskin wrapper for @Troodon80's EE Keeper, and I'm happy to share it with other Mac users out there.

Link to the main EE Keeper thread: http://forum.baldursgate.com/discussion/16497/ee-keeper-updated-to-v1-0-2/p1

Download links for OSX versions: I used the following paths in Wine for the games, which are the locations for the Beamdog installer. If you have a beta version or Mac App Store install, your installation directories may be different.
* BGEE: Z:\Applications\Baldur's Gate - Enhanced Edition\Game Data\00777\Baldur's Gate - Enhanced Edition.app\Contents\Resources\
* BG2EE: Z:\Applications\Baldur's Gate II - Enhanced Edition\Game Data\00782\BaldursGateIIEnhancedEdition.app\Contents\Resources\

To get EE Keeper working with a Mac App Store install, please see the directions in the spoiler tags:
Go into EE Keeper.
Select "Settings -> Installation Directory" from the application menu bar (not the OS X menu bar).
Click on "Browse BG:EE" or "Browse BG2:EE", depending on which game you want to set up (if you have both games, do both).
This should bring up a "Browse for Folder" window. Click the "+" symbols to expand the selection tree to "Desktop -> My Computer -> Z: -> Applications".
Then, find "Baldur's Gate - Enhanced Edition.app" (or BaldursGateII-EnhancedEdition.app") and click the "+" symbol to see the folders inside the app package.
Find the directory "Contents -> Resources" inside the app package. Select the Resources folder and click "OK".
These screenshots may help.

http://cdn.vanillaforums.com/baldursgate.vanillaforums.com/FileUpload/39/40fc7a3542b03da98ae7c97939b39b.png

For saved games, EE Keeper is looking in the following location: "Documents\Baldur's Gate II - Enhanced Edition\save"

The Beamdog installer creates a link to the directory "\Users\USERNAME\Library\Containers\com.beamdog.baldursgateIIenhancededition\Data\Documents\Baldur's Gate II - Enhanced Edition\" in your Documents directory, letting EE Keeper find the save directory. Unfortunately, it looks like the Mac App Store version doesn't do this.

You can tell EE Keeper to use a custom save directory. There's a selectable option when you bring up the screen to open a save game. See this image:

http://cdn.vanillaforums.com/baldursgate.vanillaforums.com/FileUpload/ad/4fe79ae2cd20fc7f5672dcdf03bfce.jpg

Select the Use Custom Save directory option and then click the Browse button. Navigate to:

Z:\Users\USERNAME\Library\Containers\com.beamdog.baldursgateIIenhancededition\Data\Documents\Baldur's Gate II - Enhanced Edition\save\

and then click OK. Don't try to pick a specific save. Just point EE Keeper to the "save" directory.
Many thanks to @Troodon80 for all the work on EE Keeper!

Spirit Armor Hotfix

Hi, folks!

Let me get this out of the way first: I'm not a modder by any stretch. I have absolutely zero experience with the Infinity Engine. Nada. Zilch.

But there is an irritating bug with Spirit Armor at the moment that works like so: in the event that a character fails his or her saving throw when the spell is cast, then you will be unable to save the game until the spell's damage is applied (i.e. the spell expires). For me, this was an absolute dealbreaker, so I bumbled around in Near Infinity just long enough to cobble together a fix.

That fix is attached below.

Note that all I've done is remove the damage component from the spell so that the game will not prevent you from saving while it is active. Certainly, this is not ideal (i.e. it breaks the spell's intended behavior), but I find it preferable to the current default functionality.

I'm sharing it here because I figured someone else may also be interested. Drop it into your override folder and you should be good to go. Just ensure you backup the original file before you do.

New Weapon Types: Two Handed Axes and Rapiers!

I have looked through the arsenal of weaponry that Baldur's Gate has to offer and there are pretty much two points that are especially unsettling to me. Whenever I imagine rolling a barbarian the first thing I think of in my head, is him wielding a huge, menacing two handed axe. It has been something I always have wanted to do and with a little balancing and the help of the developers it would really make my Baldur's Gate dream come true. I also always envisioned my Swashbuckler dual wielding Rapiers, using a fencing type fighting style instead of a hack and slash style.

Two handed axes could go under the Axes proficiency and use slashing damage. Rapiers could go under the small swords proficiency and use piercing damage.

It would really be awesome to have these implemented into the game, even if there were maybe a single magical weapon of each type somewhere in the game, they wouldn't have to be gamebreaking and they could be balanced to equalize with the existing weapons so as to not make the older weapons obsolete.

You don't have to make their stats any different from the existing similiar weapon types in the game, it is purely an aesthetic and roleplaying feature in my opinion.

Thank you to anyone who takes the time to read, review or comment on this request. Especially to the developers who have stayed up many late nights to bring us the Enhanced Edition of such an amazing game. Thank you again and have an awesome day.

Favorite Alignment

I realize I have been making a lot of polls lately, but this is fun! A couple of you have been complaining that my polls from before left out a few quotes, so I decided to make a poll that can't possibly leave anything out.
From a Roleplaying Perspective. What is Your Favorite Alignment to Play?

What kind of familiar would *you* become?

$

By a strange twist of fate you are forcefully teleported into the mids of the Baldur's Gate Trilogy. Stranger still is that you're not even a person anymore... but an familiar; summoned by some greenhorn spellcaster you never met or heard of before. Life sucks!

The rules are simple: choose the familiar which would most likely represent your personality, habits, or any other connection you may feel between yourself and your soon-to-be alter ego and vote for it. That's all!
Please note that the choices presented within this poll are not meant to be influenced by whether special abilities they have at their disposal in the games. So don't let them hinder your choice. ;)

To the Roleplayers amonst us: Feel free to slip even deeper into the role of those buggers by conjuring a little side story to share with others. Or drop a line as to why you did vote for whatever creature you made if you feel like it. The choice is yours!

In my case, I'd probably become a Dust Mephit... summoned up by some good-for-nothing Transmuter in the middle of nowhere. Not because I smoke, mind you (I don't... at least not anymore). But more like due to their grim and yet humorous outlook on life. There would be so many opportunities to display my sarcastic, black humour in such an situation.
And from the looks of it they seem to appreciate coffee and black tea. So there's that too!

How to format your posts

Some people are wondering how to format your posts, here is a quick guide to post formatting. If you know html, just use that since that's all this is.

Simple:

Bold is achieved by putting the text you want to be bold inside of <b></b> ex: <b>Make me bold!</b>

Italics is achieved by putting the text you want to be italic inside of <i></i> ex: <i>Make me italics!</i>

Underline is achieved by putting the text you want to be italic inside of <u></u> ex: <u>Make me underlined!</u>

There are also a bunch of others you can use.
strike
small
pre
pre is very handy for when you want to paste something where you want to preserve the formatting.

Drizzt Saga v3 released, now BGEE compatible!

$

Drizzt Saga is a quest mod that brings Drizzt and his companions into the game as joinable characters with their own major quest and side quests, numerous new areas, items (some to be forged) and creatures. It was originally released for BG1:TotSC, later updated to be compatible with BGT/Tutu, and now as of v3 also works with Baldur's Gate Enhanced Edition.

All credit for the story and content goes to the original author: Flysoup The full list of changes from previous versions is in the readme.

Listed below is an explanation of the mod's components:

1. The Drizzt Saga (Main component)

This is the core component and must be installed for the mod to work. You will be prompted to install one of two possible versions, which differ in how many of the new areas are added to the game's worldmap (this changes how player will be able to reach them):

a) Default version: areas connected by travel triggers
This subcomponent works the same as the original BG1 version of the mod: only 4 new areas are added to worldmap, and most areas are connected with travel regions, meaning that travelling between them happens automatically when the player clicks at the appropriate edge of the map. Choose this if you're not planning to install the BP-BGT Worldmap mod later, or if you are not sure what option to pick.
b) BP-BGT Worldmap version: all areas added to worldmap
This subcomponent makes use of the larger worldmap offered by the BP-BGT Worldmap mod by adding all 8 possible areas to game worldmap. Method of travel between some of the added areas is changed from travel regions to the usual method of manually picking the destination area on worldmap. Choose this only if you're planning to install the BP-BGT Worldmap mod later.
2. Optional component: Raise the XP cap

Installing this component will lift the default XP limit present in vanilla BGEE and Tutu games, setting it at 3750000 experience points for all classes. Drizzt and all his companions are high level characters, and without this component their actual level will not match their current experience shown on the character record screen - the game will "truncate" their experience to the highest value allowed by the current XP cap. This will not affect their in-game performance (level-dependant stats like THAC0, attacks per round, etc. all depend on the actual level of the character, not current experience), but will just look weird when opening their record sheets.

This component is only available for BGEE and Tutu, and is automatically skipped for BGT.

3. Optional component: Delayed Start - Drizzt joins after Durlag's Tower

This optional component aims to improve compatibility (see below) and balance - by delaying the mod's start until the protagonist character has enough experience to be more effective against the high-level enemies and threats introduced by Drizzt Saga. Instead of joining the party right in the middle of the initial encounter with the gnolls, Drizzt will now meet the party after completing Durlag's Tower and can be later recruited in Ulgoth's Beard inn.

This component resolves potential compatibility issues with several mods (see the compatibility notes section in readme for more details) by leaving the original Drizzt vs gnolls encounter completely untouched.

Please note that since the Worldmap mod has not yet been updated to work with EE, BGEE users must choose the "Default" version of the core component when installing.

http://jheberg.net/captcha/bg2ee-voix-fr/

This thread is meant to provide a guide to all mods for BG:EE announced in this forum as being in development or being adapted from vanilla BG as well as those that are recruiting modders. As we all know, the forums are very active and it´s very easy for a mod announcement to get lost in page 5 a few minutes after being announced.

If your mod is not in this list, don't take it as an insult :)

For mod development announcements and modder recruitment threads not in the list bellow, notify me or post in the thread and I´ll update it ASAP.

If you're looking for links to mods that were already released click here.

Lately I've been lamenting the lack of NPC options in BG2, especially of certain classes. On top of that, anything that adds to the story without taking away from the original is fantastic in my book. So, in general, what are your favorite, essential NPC additions, romances, friendships etc. And in regards to the IEP and Pocket Plane Banter packs for BG2, do they alter the vanilla dialog in any way, or just add a much larger quantity of it?? I'm looking to expand the universe (keep in mind I do already have the BG1 NPC mod installed, and don't know how I lived without THAT for so long).

When you go to Spellhold and are betrayed by everyone's favorite Kara-Tuan (sorry Tamoko) whatever party members you have acknowledge it, e.g. Minsc's a ''slap in the face of friendship'' quote so I was surprised that when you find Yoshi's journal in the Temple of Ilmater, nobody has anything to say about it. I never played the BG1 NPC Project due to the fact that I never had the original BG1 and full compatibility for the Enhanced Edition has not been confirmed but I heard that it does something similar when you read Gorion's letter and find out you're a Bhaalspawn.
