Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition playthrough begins, using same character as the first playthrough

I'm so excited, BG2 is solidly in my top 3 games of all time and so far it seems like the changes have improved quite a bit! You might have crossed paths with my playthrough of Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition which I started last year, when I was just starting out on YouTube, so I hope you'll appreciate the improvement in quality since then!

Using the same bg2tweaks as before, will be exploring all of the new content, and my main character is a Kensai soon to be Kensai/Mage.

More videos coming today for a total of 4, any questions or feedback is appreciated! Enjoy!

For the curious, here's the Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition playlist that started last year:

Best throwing weapon for a BG2 Mage?

$

So I am doing BG2 with my wild mage and he is good in staff, dagger, and dart. I currently have the boomerang dagger and the crimson dart. Which of those is the better throwing weapon? Also, once I get the firetooth dagger, which would be the best of those three throwing weapons for my mage? Assume strength bonus to damage is not a factor. Would getting a sling ever be worth it?

BG2EE: Move the new character info screen to an optional UI screen

I think that the title says it all. I would ask that you either add a button to the SoA/ToB screens that displays the new character info or add a "Never Show This Again" option, similar to what ToB had when you would launch the original and it informed you about Watcher's Keep. It is nice to see once, but it becomes just another click (on the opposite side of the screen) to get to loading a single player game when starting up again.

Can Imoen be imported?

I wonder, if in BGII: Enchanced, can Imoen be imported from your BGI: Enhanced save? (and perhaps also other party members that carry over?) So she doesn't start as a crappy dual-class?

Neera's spellcasting broken after visiting Watcher's Keep

Right after we entered first level of Watcher's Keep, Neera started to fail 9/10 spells with "spell failed: casting failure". Before it was ok, around 5% fails. Exiting Watcher's Keep and entering other location not fixed this issue, please help fixing this one or I'll be forced to fire Neera for professional impropriety

Is BG2:EE Accessible to New Players?

Ok, so there's this article that was posted in the BG2:EE reviews thread:

http://www.twinfinite.net/blog/2013/11/16/baldurs-gate-2-review

While the author clearly didn't put in near the effort that a game reviewer should, I wonder how many casual players who just come across BG2:EE on Steam or in the App Store are going to adapt if they've never played before.

It's easy to direct people to the manuals, but a lot of new players aren't even going to know that they exist since they no longer come with the game (at least BG1:EE had a tutorial). As a fan of BG2:EE and of Beamdog, I want to see the game attract and hold new players - is there anything the devs can do to help newbies with the learning curve? Have manuals accessible through gameplay options maybe, or create a tutorial level?

Minor graphical issue for SoA and game version

The SoA logo blocks the game install version number. This does not occur inside ToB or Black Bits 2.

I would suggest moving the version number up a bit or elsewhere as the SoA logo is beautiful and I'd hate to see it shrunk.

*SPOILERS* It's the little things ...

So, here a list of the little things in BG2:EE that made me smile and I can spontaniously think of:

- When I was attacked by two guys named Simon and Garfunkel
- When Dorn said "These boots are made for walking"
- When I visited the Wild Mage camp at night
- When Viconia got mad because I dragged her along for Rasaad's quest
- When Viconia and Hexxat started flirting
- When everyone started commenting on the tree at the Ressurection Gorge
- When the fairy dragon and I made fun of Dorn's large feet
- When I met Tiax' cousin King Whatshisname and the hippie elf at the mage camp
- When I was allowed to kill a shitload of Thayans (I have my own very personal hate for red wizards [excluding Edwin])
- When everone assumed Dorn was my servant and he didn't even compute
- When I noticed that the very old bug in the DeArnise Hold regarding to charm the captain was fixed.

There is a shitload more but I can't recall them right now.
Feel free to add your own "little things" to the list.

Multi-player compatibility error? 3 players causes an "Application not responding" error

$

My buddies and I were trying a 3-player game last night via the Beamdog.net servers1, when lo and behold, we kept on having something break.

My buddy2 was trying to host the game (steam version) and my other buddy3 and I were trying to join. M uses Windows and T and I both use Mac (the beamdog version).

M would launch the game and I would join. When T would attempt to join, BG:EE would crap out: application would stop responding and – for that reason – T would have to reboot (because for whatever reason, beamdog’s version overrides the CMD+Tab command from Macs).

We swapped roles after a few more reboots and crashes; I would join our quest last. Unfortunately, I had the same problem as T: T and M would confirm that they had joined the lobby (M still hosting) and I would find the game and attempt to join.

I’d select the appropriate game session, login with the password, and end having the application stop responding at the “Joining Selected Session … This may take a few minutes…” screen. I could move my cursor but the application not responding, which, combined with the inability of Baldur’s Gate to accept the CMD+Tab command, forced me to reboot.

We tried in windowed mode, because that, frankly, made killing the application process easier. But we could never get the game to run with M as host.

When we switched to T as host, we were able to run the game just fine.

Anyway, let me know what additional information I can send along to help resolve this issue.

FN: 1. Beamdog.net is more convenient than TCP/IP interface, because, let’s face it:
1. Having to update your ini file each time you switch games is a little bit of bummer.
2. I can’t find the join game option on TCP/IP anymore.
But I digress.

FN 3. Known as T

Neverwinter Nights Enhanced Edition?

Sorry, but I had to ask the question: Is a Neverwinter Nights Enhanced Edition a feasible idea in the distant future?

For starters, Neverwinter Nights came out the same year as Icewind Dale 2, which is up for grabs as a possible Enhanced Edition project.

In contrast, I realize Neverwinter Nights was built on a newer (no longer isometric) engine, which some might view as modern enough and unfit for being "Enhanced".

So what are your thoughts? I have not seen any Dev commentary on the subject (though IWD and IWD2 were mentioned as being of "interest" to the Devs).

It is more of a curiosity of mine than anything, mainly because Neverwinter Nights is what got me back into the Infinity Engine games after almost a decade of not playing them.

I personally would welcome an Enhanced Neverwinter Nights, after Baldur's Gate 3, IWDEE, IWD2EE, and Planescape: Torment EE of course :)

Edit: Subtopic - I also remember thinking about how cool Neverwinter Nights could/would have been if the loading screens in Baldur's Gate were correct about transferring your characters to Neverwinter Nights and had come true. Neverwinter Nights on the Infinity Engine? Yes please :)

I get a kick out of the mods that have brought Icewind Dale and Baldur's Gate to the NWN2 engine, because if I had more skill and knowledge (and time) with the Infinity Engine, I'd love to personally bring Neverwinter Nights to the Infinity Engine as an Icewind Dale 2 mod.

PLEASE Re-introduce TOOLTIP DELAY for BGII:EE

I hate how long it takes for tooltip icons to show up and I loved being able to change it in BG:EE. I hope this is doable, that is my #1 desired feature. Thanks!

What should overhaul do next?

So BG1 and BG2 now both have an enhanced edition.

We will see the inevitable patches in the coming months, but now Overhaul is drifting directionlessly in the black void of post-development uncertainty.

Clearly only you and I can solve this existential dilemma. So what is the answer?

Should they:
1. Continue producing large amounts of post launch content for both games of breathtaking scale?
2. Start enhancing another infinity engine game?
3. Start enhancing another D&D game?
4. Start enhancing another game?
5. Stop enhancing games, and start making their own games which they may or may not be able to enhance another 12 years down the line?
6. Start making Baldur's gate 3?
7. Start making what is basically Baldur's gate 3, but not actually called Baldur's gate 3?
8. Start making an entirely new D&D game?
9. Start making an entirely new rpg?
10. Start making an entirely new game?
11. Something else?

There's a lot of clicking to do before you can play

So, first I click on the icon. Then I click "Launch" in the launcher. Then I have to click "Shadows of Amn". Then I have to click to bypass the cinematic. Then I have to click "Continue" on the "new adventures" page. Then I have to click "single player". Then I have to click "Load game" (incidentally on the other side of the screen as well). Then finally I can click "load" and start playing.

Surely there could be a way of going directly into "Load Game"? Or perhaps even a button with "Continue playing" that loads the latest save game.

I've nitpicked about this before, but it's even worse now in BG2EE! Brilliant game otherwise of course :)

Interesting weapon choices for a half-elf Blade

$

so after reading the responses in another thread of mine I'll decide to roll a blade. I've played one about 10 years ago in BG2:SoA but don't really remember much. I was dual wielding back then but in BGEE it seems not a good way to go because it is only good with 2 or 3 points into the "two weapons style" which is better left for higher levels I'd say..

What are interesting uses? the fact that bards can use any weapon is really cool. I'm thinking halberds or 2-handed swords but Dorn will already be using those. What do you use when not using 2 weapons?

Mysterious slowdowns

Every few seconds the game slows down terribly. This started happening after patch 1.2. The same issue is with BG2 EE. Any ideas how I could fix this?
