It’s been 200 Winters since the Darkening.

Winter is merciless. Every year, She rains shards of sharpened ice rain from the sky, demanding blood from those without shelter as though a supplication to the gods. Winter banishes the sun, forbidding it to temper Her blistering ice. She hides the sun’s warmth with a veil of thick, breathless dust that chokes and grays out the landscape. Her fury is still but deadly.

Man knows little of how this world came to be. Some say that Winter has always hated him and has forever sought to smother him in Her blighted grip. Others say Winter murdered the gods and placed Herself above man as his new master. Still, others say that man angered the gods and they abandoned him to his well-deserved fate as Winter’s prey. Even more curious and unbelievable legends are spoken of in whispers. Such whispers are the mere pitiful whines of man to understand what has turned him into the skittish, desperate cry from the greatness that once was his.

For the shadows of his previous life do mar the valley. Ancient, enchanted ruins, adorned with the echoes of times past, serve as homes for Winter’s wicked servants. Her minions seek to steal the hard-earned resources accrued by man during his summer reprieve. They are enemies to all. Winter has infested certain men with her hunger, pitting him against rebuilding, against peace, against himself. Those men seek to take what they did not earn during summer. They are hardened, and thirsty for blood and bread.

Dual classed fighters and weapon proficiencies

Can anyone clarify how exactly weapon proficiencies work when dual classing from and to fighter classes?

If I dual class from a fighter to say a thief, can the thief put more than one pip into a weapon? Am I limited to specialization like multiclass fighters or can I go to grand mastery? Also do I need to wait for the fighter abilities to reactivate before I can start putting more than one pip into a weapon?

If dual classing to a fighter, are there any restrictions or can I get to grand mastery?

Contingencies and Sequencers - What do you use?

What does everybody else like to put in their Contingency and Sequencer spells? Making this post largely out of curiosity and to see if perhaps there's some awesome combo that I overlooked. :)

Minor Sequencer - I used to put double Magic Missiles in this slot ("Say hello to my Ten-Shooter! PEW PEW!"), but after encountering a certain Planeswalking Rakshasa in Siege of Dragonspear, I've since changed it to a combined Web+Stinking Cloud. I've found it to be quite a nasty combo for hurling into the back of a large group of enemies and having them permanently incapacitated from one spell or the other.

Contingency - You can't really go wrong with the classic "Stoneskin at 50% health", but I got a bit tired of having to recast my Contingency every time my Mage took a lucky high-rolling Fireball to the face, so I instead changed it to "Improved Invisibility at 25% health". This not only tends to take my Mage out of immediate danger (primarily because it also prevents spellcasters from directly targeting me), but it also gives me time to re-position and perhaps cast some other defensive spells before attacking again.

Spell Sequencer - I used to put 3x Flame Arrow into this to provide a heavy hitting puncher, but more recently I've started putting 3x Skull Trap thanks to the Tweaks mod that improves the detonation trigger for Skull Traps if you cast it into an area where enemies are standing. Much fewer creatures are immune to Magic damage, and it packs a small (so it's less likely to hurt your front line fighters) AOE burst into the bargain.

Spell Trigger - I usually use this as my "Shield Breaker", with a combination of Pierce Magic+Breach+Lower Resistance, for use against spellcasting foes like Liches. At higher levels though I usually need to throw in a Pierce Shield first to remove any high-level wards before casting this.

Chain Contingency - This one I'm torn about. My current plan is to put in a 3x Horrid Wilting (since BG's version of Horrid Wilting doesn't affect party members) on "Enemy that last hit the Mage" when my Mage falls to 10% HP (again, I'm trying to avoid having to recast my Contingencies too often) as a "Doomsday Nuke" when things get really desperate, but there are lots of other defensive strategies I could use too.

Xan's New Groove is in full swing; quite literally! This module sets out to make Xan relevant (again) while also properly giving the Non-Player Character a more fleshed out backstory of supporting items and a chance to live out his potential throughout the Original Baldur's Gate! This mod is currently in OPEN BETA, and all feedback is welcome. I’ll be updating and providing support as necessary, and I may even add new content here and there before the final release, but for now, it’s time to stop sitting on this. Let’s get it done.


WHAT IS THIS?
The BGEE NPC Pack includes the original Vynd, Drow Assassin NPC mod as well as four brand new NPCs, all of whom will interact with each other and the classic Baldur’s Gate cast. Each one includes a friendship track and an array of player-initiated dialogue, with more options opening up as the game progresses.

You want quests? This time we got ‘em! Three of the four new characters come with their own personal missions, which must be completed to unlock all their player-initiated dialogue, plus a final, loyalty-inspired talk in the endgame.

You want loot? There’s plenty of new and unique items to be had; some supplied with the characters, others found through their quests, or just indiscriminate slaughter. Hoard them all!

You want romance? Nope. Sorry.

When asked about her past, Littlun proudly informs you of how she was taken in as a baby by a tribe of elves, who raised her as one of their own. However, while she is very much a product of the wilds, the mechanical, rapid-fire crossbow she carries is the work of her long-deceased father, once a master craftsman and wandering scholar. She is a walking contradiction, a juxtaposition of untamed nature and advanced technology.

When asked about his past, Vynd wonders aloud how you'd feel if some nosy bastard you barely know asked for your life story. You've pieced together that he's not new to the surface world, and he left the Underdark by choice. Beyond that, he remains a mystery. A snide, abrasive mystery.

When asked about her past, Moidre says little, which you've quickly come to realise is normal for her. Her helmet, which she refuses to remove even when ordered, hides her countenance from the world, and her voice rarely wavers from its flat inflection, making her as easy to engage with as a brick; however, her intense discipline marks her as something more than common sellsword.

When asked about his past, Dave chuckles and says it's not the past you should be interested in, but the present. Born to a single mother in a quiet village, Dave seems to have joined the church of Talos on a whim, for there was no outside force, nor troubled childhood, nor deranged power-hunger to compel him. Despite this, he expresses no doubts or regrets over his chosen path, and refuses to be swayed from it.

Before you even had the chance to ask about her past, Flara insisted she was once a powerful red dragon, who is now trapped in human form. This may be true, or it may not; she can offer no concrete explanation for how such a predicament came about, nor does she recall much of her time before it. Nevertheless, the air around her ripples with heat, and her fiery breath is difficult to argue with, though not as much as her temperament.

DO THEY FIGHT WITH OTHER NPCS?
Only Vynd and Kivan will come to blows, and it can be prevented by talking to Vynd before things escalate too far.


ANYTHING ELSE?
While it is intended that none of these characters (except Littlun) care about the party’s reputation, this feature still doesn’t work in the Enhanced Edition. If you want to use them all together, I recommend installing the Happy Patch component of the Tweaks Anthology. It’s okay. You’re not breaking the rules.

While Moidre is neutral, she responds best to a high reputation. If you want to get the most out of her, be good.

Keep Gorion’s letter! Having it in your inventory unlocks some additional player-initiated dialogues for each character.

Don’t tell Vynd you love him. You’ve been warned.


WHAT IF I JUST WANT VYND?
Vynd is the same snarky drow he always was, and aside from his interactions with the new NPCs, nothing’s changed. If you’ve played or intend to play the Vynd mod by itself, don’t worry. You’re not missing anything.

UniquePower : OnHit, targeting problem

I'm trying to build special weapons with unique (scripted) on-hits effects, so far I had not stumbled upon any problem as long as the target was always single, the direct target of the attacker.

I have no idea why, maybe its a small error from me that I cannot understand atm, but in essence : targeting creatures through loops, from tagbased UniquePower-OnHit scripts reveals to be problematic and the list of creatures returned in the map are not always complete, thus not reliable.

This problem specifically happen in on-hit scripts, the very same verbatim script copied and used in a spell script and cast normally, or onActivate item will run without any problem and all creatures will be targeted successfully.

I've tested cursesong, chain lightning on on-hit weapons just for testing purposes, and they had the same targeting problems while working correctly in spells scripts.

This is very strange to me, maybe I'm too close to the thing that I'm blinded and the problem is ridiculously simple?

Hi, Ive finished BG1 many times but not BG2 once... I`ve bought sometime ago all trilogy EE and want to run all the way to finish!

I want some help building a party mostly for BG2EE as in BG1EE I think i'll go with

There's the issue; I try through the Join Internet Game list or by Direct Connect - either way the log in just hangs. No error message, nothing - even if I leave it several minutes.

I do have a CD key, but I'm using a new router. What should I check?

The Fimir are a race of one-eyed lizardmen from the Warhammer and Hero Quest games, and i Always liked them as a sort of evil counterpart of the lizardfolks. The ideal villains for adventures in the swamp.

Salvatore) (1492 DR) "Evil At Baldur's Gate #1, 2, 3 and 4" another comic book series featuring Minsc, Delina, Krydle, Shandie and Nerys returning to Baldur's Gate with the scars they endured from the "Shadows of The Vampire" and "Frost Giant's Fury" comic book series. Salvatore) (1492 DR) Through this module's story, your character gets to fight alongside Drizzt and his reincarnated companions against Demogorgon's demonic forces. With the help of a potion that helped him grow to the size of a giant, of course, and because Iymrith was more focused on trying to kill Hekaton than my fighter (and she almost killed him too, but Kanan managed to bring her down when Hekaton was seriously bloodied.) "Neverwinter" (MMORPG game) (Module 10: "Storm King's Thunder") (1492 DR sometime during or after the tabletop game's story because Storvald is the "final boss" in the module) Reincarnated Wulfgar and Catti-Brie are in this expansion of the game and one of your in-game allies. @niv, I have some questions and comments based on reading your doc over here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1eYRTd6vzk7OrLpr2zlwnUk7mgUsyiZzLoR6k54njBVI/edit#heading=h.70hrnjef5wv3 I figured I'd start a thread rather than PM to invite discussion, hope that's okay. Thank you for the documentation and work so far! Questions/Comments: 1) If a server is passworded, will the game check that the player knows the password before downloading assets? 2) If a player has assets in HAKs/TLKs locally already, I expect nwsync won't source stuff from there unless a player manually jumps through a lot of hoops to seed their repository? That's probably not a feature I'd spend time on, but the thought did occur. 3) Our server still runs v1.69 and has server-only hak full of assets players DON'T need. There's various reasons for this and I'd be 100% okay with players downloading the contents of this HAK, but they don't need it and it is a waste of space on the player's side. Would you be open to giving the ability to mark specific HAKs as "private" or "server-side" in the Module Properties Custom Content tab? This would tell nwsync to skip the contents of these particular HAKs, if any. It would be the module designer's responsibility to get these settings correct. I have the impression server HAKs are not particularly unique to our world, but I don't get out much to other worlds. :) I'll play with the thing a bit over the next couple weeks as time permits, but I thought it wouldn't hurt to start a discussion in parallel. -Dave

Localization Volunteer Team Roles

Greeting, everyone! We currently have many volunteer translation projects underway for the Infinity Engine games. The Translation Tool we host the projects on is intended to handle the large amount of text from the games and allow the translation teams to see up-to-date text changes from the developers. Each translation team should have people with the following roles: Team Lead (1 per project)
  • Ensure the completion of the translation project.
  • Communicate with our Localization Coordinator and with the rest of the translation team.
  • Assign roles to team members and ensure they have access to the tools they need.
  • Maintain an up-to-date version of the credits list for the team that we can add to the game.
Editor
  • Accept or reject suggestions from Translators.
  • Proofread the text and fix any existing errors.
  • Recommend other Editors or Translators to the Team Lead.
  • Report misuse of the Translation Tool to the Team Lead.
Translator
  • The best people to translate strings from English to the native language.
  • Suggest changes to existing strings.

[MOD] EEex (v0.5.0-alpha)

Overview:

EEex is an executable extender for Beamdog's Enhanced Edition of the Infinity Engine. Its goal is to externalize certain parts of the engine to grant modders a greater degree of control over otherwise hardcoded mechanics. EEex does not make any gameplay changes itself - it merely enables other mods to do so.

Alpha versions of this project are now available on GitHub. EEex will support MacOS and Linux on launch, however, the current alpha version only supports Windows. In addition, BG2:EE v2.5.16.6 is the only supported game at the time of writing.

What does it do?

EEex, when installed, directly modifies the game's executable in order to insert a loader. This loader is used to alter the game's code on startup; the modifications that are made depend on the version of EEex installed, and any installed mods that make use of EEex's capabilities.

I'm a user, what do I need to do to install?

EEex is installed just as any other WeiDU mod. Simply extract the archive's contents into your game's base folder, and run the setup - it will take care of the rest. Please note that since EEex alters the game executable itself, you should ensure that the game is closed before running the installer! EEex is currently in alpha, and as such it is highly unstable. All immediate crashes are believed to be fixed, though you still risk a crash at any time. Use with care.

I'm a modder, how do I use EEex?

EEex makes changes to many different parts of the engine. Accessing and making use of new opcodes, actions, triggers, and objects is as simple as installing EEex. The real power of EEex, however, comes from its ability to change hardcoded engine behavior. The hooks that enable these alterations are completely defined and controlled by the Lua environment, and as such, modders wishing to use these systems will have to either: a) Insert a M_*.lua file into the override folder. or b) Edit UI.MENU directly. Edit: Alpha versions of this project are now available on GitHub. Documentation and post-overhaul pending™. I have been working on creating some new LUA functions via hex editing for a mod I am currently working on, and it has been going very well so far. In case any of you are curious, here's the two new functions I've made so far: Infinity_GetPCIdentifier(slot) - Gets the ID of the character in the given portrait slot. Can be used to access the characters table or in the following command... Infinity_GetLocal(creatureID, local) - Returns the value of the given local variable on the creatureID. Can be used in conjunction with the previous command to get local values of PCs. Currently in the works: Infinity_SetLocal(creatureID, local, value) - Sets the value of the given local variable on the creatureID. To give you guys some proof, here's a screenshot: Here's my question to you all - What new commands would you like to see? New UI behaviors are beyond me, but externalizing any other behavior the engine exhibits is definitely a possibility. I.E. any internal fields you would like to have access to, any existing function behaviors you would like changed.

What are Your Low-Down Dirty Tricks?

Hi folks! Been awhile. I'm curious what low-down dirty (cheap?) tricks you've discovered in your many years of playing these games. Let the cheese commence!

- Killing *insert random creature / character* without losing Rep: A big one on my evil playthroughs. Simply use one of the Charm Cloaks to charm them, and then have an encountered monster in the area you are in do the killing for you. My favorite area to use this arguably is the Nashkel Fair with the Potion Vendor. Charm him, leave, find a kobold, get attacked, run into his tent - Kobold follows. Charge vendor forward. Let Kobold kill him, then kill the little demon imp.

- Baeloth Overkill... I mean Barrityl as your evil party mouthpiece: Not really a trick, but definite cheese (I mean this particular Drow is already a bit OP let's be honest). 16 Base Charisma... Move him to the party leader while you do any serious buying of magic items. Give him the Charisma Tome (+1), 17... Give him a Charm Cloak (+2), 19.... Put one of the many friends scrolls you find in his Quick Item Slot (like a potion). Cast Friends. 25 Charisma. Before doing this I recommend getting your party Rep to at least a "10" to ditch negatives from it. Evil folks still don't complain at a 10 which is Avg. Proceed to buy a Light Crossbow of Speed from Taerom for like 8,000 gold.

- Casting Skull Traps and Glyphs of Warding before set encounters: I mean this one is a straight up exploit of you knowing what's coming. Example: Adoy Enclave fight. Cast Skull Trap and Glyphs of Warding in the north part of the room prior to Ekandor arriving with his goons. Trigger the fight. Watch them teleport in and basically explode after the dialogue.

- Charming spellcaster enemies in fights and either casting their spells on themselves or just bleeding them dry before killing them.

- Killing Brage and Nalin after the Brage Quest for 1400 EXP each, and no rep loss... I've submitted this as a bug quite a few times, but historically its always been there.

- Charming Oublek in Nashkel, running him north (out of the sight of guards), and then killing him after all bounties are cashed in.


[MOD] Improved Heart of Fury Mode Version 3.0

Icewind Dale's Heart of Fury Mode was meant to be an "ultimate difficulty mode," but it wasn't very well executed. Its main feature is to give enemies extremely large HP bonuses, such that a regular orc could have about 100 hit points. This is bad because it makes fights very tedious. Most of playing Heart of Fury Mode consists of sitting around as your summoned creatures (which also get the extra HP) slowly kill the enemies. Icewind Dale's difficulty also suffers from the fact that the enemies' AI is terrible, and previously there was no good AI-enhancing mod (like Sword Coast Strategems) for Icewind Dale. This mod presents a more interesting "ultimate difficulty mode." It's not actually a difficulty setting, so it can be played on Normal, Insane, or even on Heart of Fury mode itself. Here are the main features: * Battles are made tougher by giving enemies more powers (for example, Fire Beetles can breathe fire), occasionally adding more enemies in an encounter, giving enemies better AI, and making enemies stronger all around, rather than simply by giving them lots of hit points. When possible, the mod powers up enemies by improving their main ability. Trolls in this mod regenerate faster, bombardier beetles use their spray ability more frequently, sword spiders move super-fast and attack ten times per round, and shadows are like Strength-draining mind flayers (to say nothing about what the mind flayers are like). * There are multiple ways in which I've improved the AI:
- Enemies are generally much quicker to select a different target, rather than chasing the same target for a long time. - Enemies generally prioritize attacking characters who don't have Stoneskin or Mirror Image. - Enemies usually don't attack characters that they can't do anything to (e.g. because of Protection from Magical Weapons). - Enemies rarely ever use spells or abilities on creatures that are immune to those spells or abilities. - Enemy spellcasters, particularly ones later on in the game, will only use many of their spells on party members, rather than wasting all of their spells on summoned creatures.
I'm not sure if the mod's AI is comparable with SCS, but it's the closest thing for Icewind Dale. * The mod powers up most of the magic items in the game, like in Icewind Dale 2's Heart of Fury Mode. Example items: [spoiler] [/spoiler] * Summoned creatures are NOT powered up, so you can't rely on them. Some enemies will get special summoning spells that summon creatures that are powered up, though. * The party will be powered up slightly. Player characters roll 8-20 for stats (as in Dark Sun), rather than 3-18. (Keep in mind that enemies will also have stats like this) The party starts the game with 30000 experience (divided among the party, so a smaller party will get more experience per character). Pomab sells some good magical equipment and scrolls, and the party starts with a lot of gold. * Throughout the game items are added, removed, and switched around. There are new random item selections. The random items you get are more likely to actually be useful. * Many spells are revised. The purpose of the spell revisions is primarily to strengthen weak spells (sometimes significantly), rather than to weaken strong spells. The game will start off not too difficult - the goblins at the beginning of the game won't be much tougher than they are normally. But the game will get really hard really fast. I've released Version 3.0! Now the mod changes the whole game, including Heart of Winter and Trials of the Luremaster! You can download the mod here. Change Log: [spoiler] Version 2.0: * The Heart of Winter expansion has been modded. * I made druid shapeshift forms more powerful. Since the characters and creatures in the game are more powerful, the shapeshift forms need to be more powerful otherwise they could be less useful than the normal character. * Some spectral undead creatures (shadows, spirits on the Burial Isle) can now go through walls. Spectral undead that don't realize that they're undead (e.g. shadowed elves, spectral guards in Trials of the Luremaster) do not have this ability. * The enemy that you fight if you wish to be more experienced using Limited Wish now has some really badass abilities that no one else has (for context, this mod makes it so that this wish makes you fight a single, extremely powerful enemy rather than several golems; I won't spoil what this enemy is, but it gives 250000 experience (or more depending on the difficulty), and it's no pushover). * Skeleton Warriors were removed from Kresselack's tomb. I plan to put a more powerful version of them somewhere else in the game later. I made a few other changes to the Vale of Shadows. * Presio no longer casts Great Shout with Chain Contingency. She doesn't summon nishruus, and she doesn't use her Spell Trigger in the duel. * Geelo no longer casts triple Shout with Spell Sequencer. * I made some changes to items and put some more items in the game. * Chain Lightning and Soul Eater now only harm enemies like I intended them to and don't produce blue fires flying all over the place. * Know Alignment now offers no save, as I intended. * Star Metal Cudgel now deals 4d6 extra damage against unnatural creatures, as I intended. * Flame Strike, Iron Body and Abi-Dalzim's Horrid Wilting have been modified. Version 3.0: * I finished my Trials of the Luremaster modifications. * Party members will be less likely to die permanently. I'm doing this because party members are going to die a lot in this mod, so it would be good not to have to reload as often. * Some enemies now require higher enchantments to hit. * Enemies now have better attack AI. * Goblin archers no longer shoot Goblin Arrows. * The prologue cave now has fewer Orc Archer Elites. * The Goblin Marshals and Orc Archer Elites in the prologue now use Whirlwind Attack instead of Greater Whirlwind Attack. * I made Lysan tougher. * I changed the powers of basic wights around a little to make them simpler and more sensible. They no longer drain luck on hit, nor do they have that weird life-draining ability I had given them that they only used on luck-drained creatures. Instead, they drain one level on hit. * Ettins now only have two attacks per round while throwing boulders. * Sahuagin leaders now correctly buff their allies as I intended. * Icasaracht now uses her aura of fear. * The moonblade created by the Moonblade spell now counts as a silver weapon and deals the extra damage against lycanthropes. * Wall of Moonlight now deals the full 5d10 damage against lycanthropes. * Cloak of Fear now lasts 1 turn and the save against the fear is made at -2.c * Mass Cause Light Wounds now offers no save. * Enchant Weapon now only sets the weapon enchantment to +5. * Rangers and Druids can now cast Dispel Magic. * I made the Wisdom requirements for the Wish spell higher. In order to get the best selection of wishes, you need to have 25 Wisdom. * Larrel's Sending no longer kills the party with Meteor Swarm at the Severed Hand entrance. I had originally made Larrel cast Meteor Swarm on the squirrel, but I had tested this revised cutscene before I had modified Meteor Swarm to have a larger area of effect. Now the party is in the area of effect, so they tend to get killed by it. Now Larrel casts Comet on the squirrel instead of Meteor Swarm. I have tested this and the comet doesn't hit the party. * Mirek now actually gives the reward he's supposed to. * The Unstrung Harp now actually takes three rounds to use. * I increased the power of some katanas. [/spoiler] Tips: - Do not play this mod on the game's regular Heart of Fury mode. The changes this mod makes to the game are separate from the regular HoF mode bonuses, so if you play on HoF mode, creatures will get the ridiculous HP that HoF gives them IN ADDITION to the even more ridiculous things that this mod gives the creatures. Play on another difficulty, like Insane, or Core Rules. When I was playtesting my mod I went through the game on Insane with double experience and max HP rolls. My team still got killed a lot. - Don't try to solo the game unless you really know what you're doing. - Make sure to have a character who can cast Dispel Magic. Dispel Magic is basically this game's version of Breach. There will be a lot of opportunities to use it once you reach Chapter 2.
