[MOD] -NPC_EE- ... Non-Player Characters Enhanced, for Everyone!

I'd like to announce the first release of my new mod: Non-Player Characters, Enhanced for Everyone. That's right - NPC_EE! HUGE update for version 2! Here is the download link: https://github.com/UnearthedArcana/NPC_EE/releases And here is a link to the readme: https://github.com/UnearthedArcana/NPC_EE/blob/master/README.MD This makes MAJOR changes. There are no more install options to change kits. Instead, there are options to change NPCs' class. There are many fewer components, because there are not as many class changes that work (for lore reasons, I'm not changing Jaheira from druid, or Quayle from cleric/mage, or Kagain from fighter, etc. Side benefit: less work for me! Then, in-game, the magic happens: I've devised a way to generate a script on the fly that will detect any mod kits you have added. Every single joinable NPC in the game will get an innate ability to add a kit, or to switch to a new kit, and they will have options for every kit that their class allows. It's frakkin' awesome. You can turn Minsc into a fighter, and then in-game you can turn him into a Barbarian! Also, as if that's not enough, I've also added options for multiclass characters to take a kit. They can only take a kit in one class, so here how it pans out: - ranger/clerics: choose a ranger kit - fighter/clerics: choose a cleric kit - cleric/thieves: choose a cleric kit - cleric/mages: choose a cleric kit - fighter/druids: choose a druid kit - fighter/thieves: choose a thief kit - fighter/mages: choose a mage kit - thief/mages: choose a mage kit So you can turn Coran into a kensai/thief. You can turn Montaron into a berserker/thief. You can make Imoen into a mage/thief multiclass, and then in-game turn her into a swashbuckler/mage. YES, you can do all of this and more with EEKeeper. But this is much cooler and easier to use. I'll keep the old v1 main post in spoiler tags, for posterity: [spoiler]What is this mod? Well, this is a bone I'm throwing to BGEE players, since the wonderful, excellent, currently-unsupported "Level 1 NPCs" mod does not work on the new engine. I added some rekitted NPC components to the end of my Scales of Balance mod (SoB); but there were only a few options, and many of them relied on having installed earlier parts of SoB. So, I expanded it such that every NPC that gets options to change will have their own full component with numerous subcomponents that give you different options. The most basic option for each NPC is to change nothing, except to drop them to 1st level so that you can control their development as they level up. (They will keep all their XP and spells, so you can level them up immediately. This option should mimic the "TOB-style NPCs" component of BG2Tweaks, on an NPC-by-NPC basis.) The other options will change the NPCs in various ways. Some will add a kit to NPCs who were unkitted. Some will change a kitted NPC's kit. Some will actually change the NPC's class. Some will change the class and add a new kit, and some can even add kits to multiclass characters (e.g. Yeslick can be a kitted fighter/cleric; and Alora can become a kitted cleric/thief). Okay, so what are the options? Here's the list (class changes noted in parentheses): [spoiler]Imoen: Swashbuckler, Adventurer (S&S), or Spellfilcher (mage/thief) Jaheira: Totemic druid, or Elementalist Khalid: ranger/cleric, Marksman, Justifier (DR), or Corsair Minsc: Berserker, or Barbarian Ranger Kivan: Archer, or Stalker Coran: Sniper, or Swashbuckler Branwen: Battleguard of Tempus (DR), or Gloryblood of Tempus (fighter/cleric) Safana: Swashbuckler, or Bounty Hunter Ajantis: Inquisitor, or Cavalier Montaron: Assassin (single-class thief) Yeslick: Alaghor of Clangeddin Quayle: Hoodwinker of Baravar Cloakshadow (single-class cleric) Faldorn: Avenger, or Purifier, or Lost Druid Skie: Assassin, or Shadowdancer Eldoth: Blade, or Jongleur Garrick: Gallant, Chorister (S&S), or Meistersinger Alora: Sniper, Swashbuckler, or Misadventurer of Brandobaris (cleric/thief) Xan: fighter/mage, Bladesinger (fighter/mage), or Loremaster (bard) Shar-Teel: Berserker Tiax: Strifeleader of Cyric (DR) Viconia: Nightcloak of Shar (DR), or Darkcloak of Shar, or cleric/thief Yoshimo: Swashbuckler, or fighter/thief Valygar: Mage Hunter, or fighter/thief Nalia: Loremaster (bard), or Loresinger of Milil (bard), or Spellbender (cleric/mage) Haer'Dalis: Jongleur, or Gallant, or Skald Mazzy: Hearthguard of Arvoreen (fighter/cleric) Aerie: Fastpaws of Baervan Wildwanderer (but still cleric/mage) Keldorn: Paladin, or Cavalier Cernd: Totemic druid, or Elementalist, or Purifier[/spoiler]Kits marked (DR) or (S&S) will only be available if you first install that kit from Divine Remix or Song & Silence, respectively. Can I change things around later? Yes. This mod should be installed dead last, after all other mods. After BG2Tweaks. After SCS. Even after Generalized Biffing, if you're playing the non-EE engine and using GB. The whole idea of this is that, after you play a game with Kivan as an Archer, you can easily uninstall that component and reinstall him as a Stalker. If this is the last mod you install, then you can do that many times without disturbing anything else. I've already changed up some NPCs with your Scales of Balance components (or the NPCKits mod, or some other method). Do I have to uninstall those changes before using this mod? No - whichever one goes in last should control. You should be able to install/uninstall/reinstall this one on top of anything else you've already done. (I have not tested doing this, but it overwrites the various ckass/kit/HP/etc. fields, so I don't see how they would conflict.) Great. But, don't take this the wrong way, there aren't many options. Yeah, I know. I'm releasing this as a beta right now under the theory that some options are better than no options. Right now the mod includes options for various vanilla kits (e.g. "make Montaron an Assassin"), for various SoB kits (e.g. "make Khalid a Corsair"), and for @zupsky's very nice Lost Druid kit ("make Faldorn a Lost Druid"). If you choose one of those options, it will install that kit into the game, but only for that NPC - not for the player. If you want those kits to be available for your PC, then you'll have to actually install those mods. (So, you do *not* have to install anything from Scales of Balance to make these options work. Yay!) Additionally, there will be a few more options if you install kits from the Divine Remix and Song & Silence mods. I'm going to reach out to the keepers of those mods, and maybe one or two others, to see if I can borrow their code to install those kits independently, like the SoB and Lost Druid kits are now. We'll see. Okay, I installed DR and S&S and there are still only like 3-4 options for most NPCs. Yeah, well, again: some options are better than none! If you have suggestions for more options for any NPCs, let me know in this thread. Further, anyone has my complete and utter blessing to delve into this .tp2 file and add to it. Want to add an option for Shar-Teel to be a Wizard Slayer? Well, copy the component that turns her into a Berserker, edit the kit line (0x246) to point to Wizard Slayer instead of Berserker (look in kit.ids) and copy/adapt one of the ADD_CRE_EFFECT lines to give her the 1st-level Wizard Slayer abilities. Done. Send me the code (or just do a pull request on Github) and I'll add it to the mod. I don't have time to add too much, but I designed the mod to support up to 17 options for each NPC. So there is definitely room to grow. Are you a modder, who makes kits? Want to include them here like @zupsky's? Fantastic! Add your kit installation code as a .tpa file, put it and the kit's clab file and any supporting .spl/.itm/etc. files into a folder in "/npc_ee/kits/" and then add a component to whichever NPCs you think are appropriate (take a look at the code giving Faldorn the Lost Druid kit; it checks to see whether the kit mod is already installed, and if it is not, INCLUDEs the .tpa). Send me the code or do a pull-request, and bam! More options! What about proficiencies? If you make Coran a single-class thief he can't use his 3 pips in long bow! Yeah, I've taken care of that. Coran as a single-class thief will get an illegal two pips in short bow. He will also have a short bow equipped when you meet him, instead of a long bow. Turn Khalid into a ranger/cleric and his sharp equipment will be replaced with blunt equipment. Et cetera. Again: I have no time for anything but the most limited testing. I've installed this, and CLUA'd the NPCs into existence, and it seems to be working fine. Let me know in this thread if you see any bugs.[/spoiler] Cheers!

Which DnD eddition to choose for starters

Hey, It has been a long time, but finally i have found four other people who seem to be interested in table top DnD game. They more or less understand the commitment and the roleplay involved in it. So thats cool. Im now thinking which eddition would be the best to start with. Neither of us 5 have any experience with DnD tabletop games. I have played a lot of pc games like Bg, Iwd, PST, NWN etc. But I guess that is a completely different story. The best would be if we could set the game relatively easy and start playing easily. I don't think anyone is super excited about reading 300 pages of rules for setting up their character (I hope that you don't have to go trough that in neither of versions). So yeah, what would be the most turnkey edition? Thanks!

I was taking a trip through the vault and discovered that @Pstemarie has released Project Q Lite which takes away the guard rails and gives module authors far easier access to customizing Project Q. So with new ideas for modules dancing in my head, I thought I would ask you all what are some of your favorite Weapon/Armor/Helm/Shield haks?

Voghiln Recruitment Problem

Hi guys, thought I'd report something that may be a bug but was entertaining nonetheless (please stop reading if you want to be spoiler-free). When I first encountered Voghiln, I approached him from the right and triggered his dialogue without ever seeing Jaheira. Voghiln spoke about me being a foe and attacked without giving me any option to calm him down. He then turned red and attacked until he perished. After the battle, I moved to the left side of the road and saw Jaheira for the first time, who gave no indication that she had been traveling with Voghiln and in fact never mentioned him at all. It wasn't until hours later that I remembered seeing Voghiln's name on the Dragonspear site and realized he was supposed to be a joinable companion. Is this a bug? (If so, I believe it happened because of the direction from which I approached Voghiln. When I reloaded an earlier save and approached him from below like you are "supposed" to, Jaheira triggered properly and I was able to recruit Voghiln into the party.)

Those who watch the recent activity page will know that sometimes I post famous quotes and "laws" of reality but as not everyone even knows the activity page exists I decided to make it a thread... besides I'd like to read you favorite famous quotes and "laws" as well :) Just to start these were my last three posts:

Ascension for BG2:EE

For those wondering how to get David Gaider's popular Ascension mod to work with the Enhanced Edition (EE) of Baldur's Gate II:

Manual installation

Don't use the old EXE from the mod's official homepage. Instead, download and install the EE port of the mod released by the BiG World Project:     DIRECT DOWNLOAD LINK (Alternatively, get it from the Github download page.) Extract it, move the contents of the BiGWorldProject-Ascension-* wrapper folder into your BG2:EE game folder, and install it like any other WeiuDU mod.

Installation with the BiG World Setup

The Big World Setup (BWS) tool already uses this version of Ascension, so if you let BWS install your mods you're all set.

Credits

The EE port was created by @WhiteAgnus and @JediMindTrix, and then picked up by the BiG World Project where it received additional EE compatibility fixes by @ALIEN, @Quitch, @agb1, and @badungu. For more info on the porting history and older versions, see the discussion starting here. (I myself wasn't involved in the making of the mod or the EE port – this is just an unofficial thread to inform other fans, because the BWP authors haven't created an official thread for it in this forum.)

At the suggestion of @Dee, this thread will be used to post updates (as and when I have time), looking into bug reports, and a host of other things.

FAQ Quick Links

Download

There are two different downloads for Keeper on Windows, and one for Mac (in most cases). The two choices on Windows are:- a standard ZIP file, or an (Inno) installer. Unless otherwise stated, an archive unpacker will be required in order to open the compressed ZIP archive. WinZip, WinRAR, 7-Zip, etc. The default location for the installer is 'Program Files'. As of Windows Vista, User Account Control (UAC) forbids writing files to directories within Program Files unless the User Account Control feature is disabled. If you use the installer, you can now opt to have the INI file saved in AppData during installation. Previous versions of EE Keeper can be found on SourceForge. Download (ZIP) Sorcerers.net mirror (ZIP) Download (EXE Installer) Mac Wineskin Wrapper - Current Version: v1.0.4.0

Modification Disclaimer

EE Keeper is a save game editor. It can also be used as a character and creature editor. It's not a mod itself, but it can be used to make modifications. If asked by a member of the Beamdog team in reply to a bug report, "are you using any mods?" please be aware that this counts as a mod, as it is used to modify something outside of the game. Most modifications achievable via EE Keeper are harmless, this is just an advisory notice.

Compatibility

Mac: This is a big question for a lot of people. The answer is that it is not officially supported. Some trials on Mac via Wineskin, by @Nifft, have been done and it seems to work, depending on the version - it will be up to others to help with that should any issues arise. More details here. @AstroBryGuy, has recently started creating wrappers for new versions of EE Keeper. Please note that a new wrapped version will be released behind the Windows version; it requires that he gets the latest version and then create and upload a wrapper. For future builds I will be submitting one to him sooner so that he can have it wrapped and uploaded in conjunction with the Windows release. Linux: Though not ideal, Keeper works with the use of Wine and it functions well enough. To load different languages, environmental variables may need to be set; e.g. Exec=env LC_ALL=zh_CN.UTF-8 WINEPREFIX="[location of wine]" wine '[location of file]'. Windows: The current version should work on everything from XP to Windows 10. If you encounter a problem, please see the details in the next post on reporting any issues you find. As a final note: just because a new thread is made, and the release is more of a Live/REL version, it doesn't mean that the program is bug free, nor does it mean that I won't be tweaking it any more (I will, and it will be a long term project/hobby). If you come across any issues, or you are in doubt over something, feel free to post and either myself of some other helpful community member will try to help overcome it. If you find something, and you're certain that it's a bug (i.e. portraits not displaying when they should), feel free to create a ticket for it here. If the ticket is not a bug, but a misunderstanding, then it will be moderated as such. Feature requests can also be made, just set the 'Report Type' option to 'Feature Request'. When trying to bring a bug to my attention, please specify what platform you are using (Mac or Windows) and exactly what you are or were trying to do at the time of the bug.

Obviously, like any program, there are bugs and there are people who voluntarily test and people who report bugs. If you've tested this to make sure it works in a beta, you'll be listed here. If you're not specifically testing for bugs, but still find one and take the time to come here and report it, you'll be listed. If you're not listed here (I may have simply forgotten), send me a PM and you'll get added.

[v1.9.35] Shadow Magic

SHADOW MAGIC

  • Link to mod page at my site: https://artisans-corner.com/shadow-magic/
  • Note: this mod is only compatible with versions 2.0+ of BG:EE, BG2:EE and IWD:EE.
"There is a dark secret hidden within the walls of Candlekeep, forbidden to be spoken of among the scribes and monks even in hushed voices. A well of shadow magic, fueled by darkness and loss, shunned by most practitioners of the arcane arts. Such powers originate from the realm of the Shadow Weave, the distorted mockery of Mystra's Weave created by Shar, the Nightsinger. So obscure is this power that most are unaware of its existence, and those that know of it refuse to acknowledge it due to its dark origins. However, the seductive whispers of this power has called to you, an apprentice mage who had barely mastered your first cantrip, since a young age, deep beneath the great library. When the voices became too much to resist, you snuck into the depths of Candlekeep in the dead of night, where unwanted and dangerous secrets are left to rot. Inside of a once-sealed chamber stood a strange fountain, an open wound in the Prime Material Plane through which the energies of the Shadow Weave bled. As soon as you touched the eerie yet beautiful strands of magic that flowed from the wound, you felt an awakening as your connection to the Weave was severed and the power of Shar's dark Weave coursed through you in its place, bestowing upon you a magic that few are gifted with. As you matured, the growing magic within you developed a symbiotic connection until it became one with your very being, and the power of the Shadow Weave became subservient to your will. Gorion and your tutors grew wary of the strange magic that you wielded, though they never learned of the source. Though you knew the dangers of toying with Shar's domain were great, the temptation of such a little-known power in your hands were a thousand times worth the cost."
- biography of a shadow adept Bhaalspawn

Component 1: SHADOW MAGIC MAIN COMPONENT

The Shadow Adept is a mage kit with a completely unique spell selection with 100+ new spells to choose from. A lot of them are copies of existing spells but there are quite a few relatively unique ones in there. A list of spells with descriptions can be viewed here.
SHADOW ADEPT: Shadow adepts hurl themselves into the abyss of the Shadow Weave, immediately acquiring all the gifts available to casual students and discovering secrets unavailable to all but the most dedicated. Advantages: - Hit Die: d6 - May use Shadow Magic. SHADOW MAGIC: Spells of the Shadow Weave are usually more powerful than regular magic, but drains the caster's life force. When a spell is cast, the shadow adept must make a Save vs. Death at a modifier equal to the spell level (e.g. -1 for 1st level, -9 for 9th level) or temporarily lose Constitution equal to the level of the spell cast for 3 rounds. If the shadow adept's Constitution reaches zero, they are killed instantly. The Shadow Weave is a mysterious and dark entity, far more alien and harder to control than that of Mystra's equivalent. As such, a great amount of mental acuity is required in order to master shadow magic. High intelligence, wisdom and charisma benefits those who choose to stray into Shar's domain. - Gains the Darkvision innate ability. DARKVISION: The shadow adept is gifted with the ability to see in the dark even better than in light. They permanently gain infravision and immunity to blindness. - May cast one additional spell per level. - +2 bonus to saving throws against spells of the Enchantment, Illusion and Necromancy schools. - 4th level: May use the Shield of Shadows ability once per day. SHIELD OF SHADOWS: The shadow adept surrounds themselves with a barrier of purpleblack force. This shield of shadows functions like a shield spell, setting their armor class to 4 (2 against ranged weapons) and absorbing magic missiles cast at them for 1 hour per 2 levels to a maximum of 9 hours. From 8th level onwards, the shield of shadows also grants +4 to saving throws vs. death and +1 to all other saving throws. - 5th level: May use Shadowstep once per day. Gains one use every 5 levels thereafter. SHADOWSTEP: Step into the Shadow Plane and move for 7 seconds while others are frozen in time. The shadow adept cannot attack or use spells while in the Shadow Plane. - 14th level: May use the Shadow Double ability once per day. SHADOW DOUBLE: The shadow adept creates a copy of themselves out of shadowstuff. The copy is at 60% of the caster's level and has all the spells and abilities that the caster would have at that level. Disadvantages: – Suffers a -2 penalty to casting speed and casting time while in daylight. - -2 penalty to saving throws against spells of the Invocation and Alteration schools. - May not learn or use spells from the Weave. - Alignment restricted to non-good. Prime Requisites For Dual-Classing: Intelligence, Charisma

STAT BONUS TABLES

OPTIONAL: ALTERNATE SPELL COSTS

This required subcomponent allows the installer to choose the resource cost that Shadow Weave magic uses. The options are:
  1. Drain Constitution (cost = spell level, lasts 3 rounds)
  2. Current Hit Points (cost = spell level*2)
  3. Maximum Hit Points (cost = spell level*2, lasts 6 rounds, current hit points do not recover)
  4. No cost

SORCERER KIT: SHADOW DISCIPLE

The main component also adds the Shadow Disciple kit, the sorcerer variant of the shadow adept with the same abilities.

BARD KIT: NIGHTSINGER

The main component also adds the Nightsinger kit, a bard that uses shadow magic.
NIGHTSINGER: A rare class of bards that choose to study the power of the Shadow Weave gain access to its dark powers, bestowing upon them a dirge capable of cursing their enemies. Advantages: - The Nightsinger's Bard Song, "Dirge of Despair", curses their enemies, reducing their morale and saving throws. 1st level: -1 penalty to THAC0, damage and saving throws, lowers morale 11th level: -2 penalty to THAC0, damage and saving throws, lowers morale 21st level: -3 penalty to THAC0, damage and saving throws, lowers morale - May use Shadow Magic. - +2 bonus to saving throws against spells of the Enchantment, Illusion and Necromancy schools. - 6th level: May use the Shield of Shadows ability once per day. SHIELD OF SHADOWS: The shadow adept surrounds themselves with a barrier of purpleblack force. This shield of shadows functions like a shield spell, setting their armor class to 4 (2 against ranged weapons) and absorbing magic missiles cast at him for 1 hour per 2 levels to a maximum of 9 hours. From 8th level onwards, the shield of shadows also grants +4 to saving throws vs. death and +1 to all other saving throws. - 7th level: May use Shadowstep once per day. Gains one use every 5 levels thereafter. SHADOWSTEP: Step into the Shadow Plane and move for 7 seconds while others are frozen in time. The shadow adept cannot attack or use spells while in the Shadow Plane. - 18th level: May use the Shadow Double ability once per day. - Alignment restricted to Lawful Neutral, True Neutral, Chaotic Neutral or Neutral Evil.

ITEM PACK

The main component also adds several items that are exclusive to the shadow adept. Some can be found in BG1+SoD and all can be found in BG2. Some items require the shadow adept to have a secondary class in addition to the kit itself. Bear in mind that the quest component is required for a few of the items to show up in-game in BG:EE.

FAMILIARS

The shadow adept has the ability to summon a familiar at 6th level. The shadow adept's familiar has a few differences in strength and function compared to a mage's familiar but mostly imitates vanilla familiar behavior. Familiars and their abilities may be viewed here.

Component 2: SHADOW MONK

SHADOW MONK: Little is known about the secretive order of shadow monks, other than the fact that they draw upon the power of the Shadow Plane to wield dark ki. They are masterful assassins, manipulating powerful illusions to their advantage and skilled at striking from the shadows, but their ritualistic training has taken a toll on their physical stamina. Advantages: - +1 bonus to Dexterity. - Gains the Darkvision innate ability. DARKVISION: The shadow adept is gifted with the ability to see in the dark even better than in light. They permanently gain infravision and immunity to blindness. - Gains the Life-Drain innate ability. LIFE-DRAIN: Shadow monks channel the power of the Shadow Plane into their fists, gaining bonus effects based off of their level. 1st - 9th level: Drains 1 hit point on hit. 10th - 19th level: Drains 2 hit points and lowers target's strength by 1 for 2 rounds (save vs. death to avoid strength drain) 20th level onwards: Drains 3 hit points, lowers target's strength by 1 and 20% chance to drain one level permanently on hit - Has a backstab multiplier of x2. Increases to x3 at 11th level and x4 at 21st level. - 3rd level: May use the Shadow Pool ability. SHADOW POOL: Shadow monks wield the power of the Shadow Plane and can manipulate it in order to cast a limited amount of Shadow Magic. The shadow monk must first spend one round drawing energy from the Shadow Weave then cast the spell. The shadow monk's concentration may be disrupted during the channeling or the casting time. Level 1 (3rd, 6th, 9th, 12th levels): Shadow Missile, Blinding Darkness, Shadow Veil, Decoy Level 2 (7th, 10th, 13th, 16th levels): Dark Mirage, Black Mist, Ghostly Visage, Shadow Walk Level 3 (11th, 17th, 23rd levels): Shadowblast, Lifedrinker Touch, Shadow Comets, Impose Level 4 (15th, 21st, 27th levels): Fireshield (Shadow), Shadeskin, Summon Shadow, Shar's Blessing - 5th level: May cast Shadowstep once per day. Gains an additional use every 5 levels thereafter. SHADOWSTEP: Step into the Shadow Plane and move for 7 seconds while others are frozen in time. The shadow monk cannot attack or use spells while in the Shadow Plane. - 12th level: May cast Shadow Door once per day. Gains additional uses at 16th and 20th level. - 15th level: May use the Deathstrike ability once per day. DEATHSTRIKE: The shadow monk teleports to a chosen target and turns invisible for one round. Their next attack within one round is a guaranteed critical hit and drains six levels from the target. Disadvantages: - Hit Die: d6 - -2 penalty to Strength. - -4 penalty to Constitution. - Alignment restricted to non-lawful and non-good. - Uses the shadowdancer's high level abilities table instead of the fighter's, with the exclusion of Use Any Item. - May not use the Lay On Hands ability. - May not use the Stunning Blow ability. - May not use the Quivering Palm ability.

Component 3: QUESTS & ENCOUNTERS

Kryn Darkflame is a Shadovar mage of Thultanthar, the Shade Enclave. He is in the grounds of the Friendly Arm Inn and serves as a merchant of magical wares including many Shadow Adept-exclusive items. Finding and dealing with his missing apprentices will net the player a sizable reward. Spoilers on items and their locations can be found here.

It wasn't in the first Baldur's Gate. Was that something James wanted to hit this this time around? Gaider: We discussed, "Let's give them arcs," and then the idea of romances came up. We initially were supposed to have six: three female, three male. We were interested in that, but what the romances would be? I don't think we [knew]. It wasn't like we had direction such as, "Make it emotionally resonate." We were just trying to write a good story. As I recall, that's all we were trying to do. It was a little weird, because romance in a video game seemed like a weird thing. We weren't sure how we would do this. I remember when I was sitting down and trying to write romances, I was just trying to make it an interesting story. I was trying to figure out what to do with Anomen. That was actually my first romance, and I didn't know what to do with him. I didn't create his character. The first part of his character writing had been done by, I think, Rob Bartel, one of the other writers. And [the character] was kind of an asshole. I had followed up on that, here's this arrogant paladin guy, based on what Rob had started. Then at some point I remember James saying, "Okay, he's the first male romance." And I was like, "Really? Really? Anomen? You think...? Okay. Sure. I'll figure it out." I was trying to take Anomen and figure out, okay, how would you romance this guy? I didn't give any thought, really to who the audience was or if it would be an emotional thing. I just thought, If this were a story I were writing, like a book, how would it play out? Drama is just a thing that has to happen. I didn't feel pressured to make it engaging for the player. I just thought, Well, what do I feel like? What do I think is cool? Same thing when I wrote Aerie and Viconia [DeVir] romances. They were kind of dropped in my lap because I wasn't supposed to do the female romances at all, but Luke was falling way behind, so they said, "Why don't you do these?" So I was like, okay, they're very different from each other, so I took two different [approaches]: Aerie being the damsel in distress, Viconia being a femme fatale. When I did tabletop, I would sometimes give my players romances. If they were romancing a player in my game, how would I write that story? That's all. I was thinking about what we had done. We weren't even sure that the romances would work, or that they'd make it into the final game. But we had no idea, honestly, that they'd be popular. I think when the game got released and we saw they were popular, it was a complete surprise to us. So from my perspective, I was making a side quest like the other side quests. That really was the entirety of it." Read more in the interview.

The default soundsets in IWDEE feature 25/33 sounds and BGEE default soundsets only use 15/25 sounds. Soundsets added with this mod use up to the maximum number of sounds - depending on if appropriate sounds are available. The weidu installer will install the correct number of sounds possible with subtitles for each different installation. Using weidu you can also add and remove individual soundsets as you like. This thread can be used to request soundsets, commentary, to report problems or even just to let me know that you like these.

[MOD] Improved Heart of Fury Mode

$

Heart of Fury Mode was meant to be an "ultimate difficulty mode," but it wasn't very well executed. Its main feature is to give enemies extremely large HP bonuses, such that a regular orc could have about 100 hit points. This is bad because it makes fights very tedious. Most of playing Heart of Fury Mode consists of sitting around as your summoned creatures (which also get the extra HP) slowly kill the enemies. This mod presents a more interesting "ultimate difficulty mode." It's not actually a difficulty setting, so it can be played on Normal, Insane, or even on Heart of Fury mode itself. Here are the main features: * Battles are made tougher by giving enemies more powers (for example, Fire Beetles can breathe fire), adding more enemies in an encounter, giving enemies better AI (in some cases), and making enemies stronger all around, rather than simply by giving them lots of hit points. When possible, the mod powers up enemies by improving their main ability. Trolls in this mod regenerate faster, bombardier beetles use their spray ability more frequently, sword spiders move super-fast and attack ten times per round, and shadows are like Strength-draining mind flayers (to say nothing about what the mind flayers are like). * Items are powered up, like in Icewind Dale 2's Heart of Fury Mode. Example items: [spoiler] [/spoiler] * Summoned creatures are NOT powered up, so you can't rely on them. Some enemies will get special summoning spells that summon creatures that are powered up, though. * The party will be powered up slightly. Player characters roll 8-20 for stats (as in Dark Sun), rather than 3-18. (Keep in mind that enemies will also have stats like this) The party starts the game with 30000 experience (divided among the party, so a smaller party will get more experience per character). Pomab sells some good magical equipment and scrolls, and the party starts with a lot of gold. * Throughout the game items are added, removed, and switched around. There are new random item selections. * Many spells are revised. The purpose of the spell revisions is primarily to strengthen weak spells (sometimes significantly), rather than to weaken strong spells. The game will start off not too difficult - the goblins at the beginning of the game won't be much tougher than they are normally. But the game will get really hard really fast. I've released the mod! Currently the mod only modifies the base game; don't play Heart of Winter with this mod installed right now. You can download the mod here. Tips: - Do not play this mod on the game's regular Heart of Fury mode. The changes this mod makes to the game are separate from the regular HoF mode bonuses, so if you play on HoF mode, creatures will get the ridiculous HP that HoF gives them IN ADDITION to the even more ridiculous things that this mod gives the creatures. Play on another difficulty, like Insane. or Core Rules. When I was playtesting my mod I went through the game on Insane with double experience and max HP rolls. My team still got killed a lot. - Don't try to solo the game unless you really know what you're doing. - Make sure to have a character who can cast Dispel Magic. Dispel Magic is basically this game's version of Breach. There will be a lot of opportunities to use it once you reach Chapter 2.

Unable to cast magic in Spellhold

I'm in Spellhold, after the dream at the start of the Bodhi chase bit. My mage character cannot cast spells after more than a few minutes. Everything's fine for about five minutes, then suddenly any spells cast don't go off. My character just continues the animation for spellcasting indefinitely until moved. I have changed my class (originally using the Shadow Magic mod, but even as a normal mage this bug still appears) uninstalled all my mods and still I'm having the same problem? I reinstalled my game and even imported the save onto another BG2 installation (from PC to laptop) and still it's happening??? I'm totally out of ideas here and have no idea how to proceed :( Please help.

Tales of the Harbingers: Throne of the Undying

This is to be my attempt to DM a role playing group here in the forum, similar to @Rik_Kirtaniya’s own thread that was put on hold. This will be a different story altogether, as I didn’t want to hijack his story, but the principle is basically the same. It’s a story where members in the forum may participate as characters interacting with the world. Naturally, anybody is welcome to join, just let me know and I’ll help you get set up. The rules are pretty much the same. Point-buy system for stats ala IWD2, etc. Not much combat, as actual combat scenarios can get a little tricky without everybody being on at the same time. OoC posts are done using spoiler tags. The same old stuff. Tagging @Skatan @lolien @ThacoBell and @mashedtaters . I guess you could use the characters you used in the other thread or make new ones. Either way, please post your characters’ details if you don’t mind. Now, on to the story... In the lands north of the Giant’s Maw, a great canyon spanning thousands of miles, life was hard for civilized folk. Small frontier towns of fishing and mining communities dotted the region, connected by a solitary dirt road that wound its way across the land. Hardly any animals lived in these parts, though monsters were far more common. The largest of the frontier towns was called Callus, a slowly growing fishing town located next to a sparkling river that ran south until it disappeared into the Giant’s Maw. The land surrounding the town was arid, almost desolate, as only the most stubborn weeds and plants dared to continue to grow here upon its surface. Callus is home to several hundred people, including humans, elves, dwarves, and numerous other races. It was truly a melting pot of cultures and traditions. Nestled in a dark corner on the west side of town was a small, yet comfortable inn, the Weary Wanderer. The lone innkeeper, a short, squat dwarf with a dull gray beard that hung loosely down to his belt, merely grunted as new guests entered the building, not bothering to look up from his arduous task of cleaning out used mugs, finishing each one with a spit shine. It was here that a number of adventurers met and came together to form a party.

Nur her damit!

[MOD] Dragonspear UI++ (v2.3)

Dragonspear UI++

This mod (previously named SoD GUI Overhaul) makes many changes to the SoD user interface, while keeping the dragon-ish graphics to it. Most notably, majority of GUI screens now have size of 1365x756 pixels (main menu screens have size 1444x818 with size of the main body window without edge graphics 1365x756 pixels). It is designed with unscaled interface full HD resolution in mind, so it might lack some intuitive funcionalities when played on scaled/low resolution. Beside from general change of GUI screens, I have added numerous tweaks made by myself and other people on this forum. Special thanks goes to Mr2150 for ideas, sharing code and general testing. One big warning: DO NOT PRESS F5! It messes with elements that are positioned based on screen resolution (or simply use Infinity_SetArea), it caused major problems for me. You can use F11 without a problem. About languages: Newly introduced GUI text is stored in lua files instead of dialog.tlk. As of version 2.03, each language has a modified version of its "L_xx_XX.LUA" copied to the override during the installation, with all the GUI texts there. The new text will stay in english until translated of course. WeiDU installer and "Update Strings" component have the text stored in a standard "english.tra" file as it updates dialog.tlk, so for complete tranlation you need to translate your language's "L_xx_XX.LUA" file in mod's "language" subfolder and the "english.tra" file in the "tra" subfolder. The new texts contain names of new labels, autoroller, portrait picker, UI setting option screen and Proficiencies/Skills tab in the record screen. WeiDU components are: -Backup M_BG.lua file: If you have this file manually edited (see Portrait Picker bellow), you want to backup this file before reinstalling the core component, which will erase everything. The backed-up file is in „sod_gui_overhaul\backup-M_BG“ folder. -Core Component: This will install the mod -Transparent Tooltip Background: This will make the tooltip (when pressed TAB) background transparent instead of dark. -Update Strings: This will shorten several strings in worldmap and record screens. „Traveling hours“ to „Hours“, „Destination Unreachable“ to „Unreachable“, shorter saving throws lines and text in statistics tab. -Select Number of Quicksave slots: You can choose number of quicksave slots from 1 to 6. -Update Portrait Picker: This component will update the M_BG.lua file (see Portrait Picker bellow) with portraits currently presented in the portraits folder, without changing anything manually edited. There needs to be at least one portrait that remains same for updating to work, otherwise install the Core component instead. Core component tweaks are following (screenshots are below):

Main Menu

- New background images that resize to the screen’s resolution, new main menu panel, tweaked Black Pits logo. - It is possible to add custom background images by putting pictures in PNG format to the override folder named „RGBACK1.PNG“ for Baldur’s Gate main campaign background, „RGBACK2.PNG“ for SoD campaign background and „RGBACK3.PNG“ for the Black Pits campaign background. These images do not resize themselves to fit the screen resolution, you must do it in some editor if needed.

Options

- Bigger screen size, no scrollbars. - New option screen in the Gameplay – „UI Settings“. There is a list of options introduced by this mod. „Left-side Main Menu“ will move the main menu panel from the default right to the left (this may be handy if you want to play with custom backround menu images, that don’t fit with the right side menu). „Cheat Mode“ will enable autoroller in Character Generation screen and will also allow to ExploreArea by pressing and holding the „Reveal Details“ button on the main gameplay screen. „Quickloot Mode“ offers more advanced customization for quickloot and „Journal Mode“ allows to choose between small and large journal. - In-game option screen is overhauled with new graphics.

Character Generation

- Bigger screen size, individual screens are more organic, red shade selection is replaced with button graphics. - Portrait Picker (by Mr2150): Portraits are now displayed in a scrollable list. Custom portraits are added to the list by WeiDU installation and stored in M_BG.lua file. They now must be no more than 7(!) characters long, ideally lowercase, (but the last letter of size identification – "L" or "M" must be uppercase if you want to have different portraits for record screen and the right sidebar - portrait with "L" will be displayed in the record screen and the portrait with the same filename except the last letter being "M" will be displayed in the right sidebar). If you name the portrait with prefix „m#” (for male) or „f#” (for female) before WeiDU installation, they will be automatically sorted by gender in the list (just as default portraits) otherwise you can assign the gender in M_BG.lua file (or specialized tool which will be coming soon). If you don’t assign gender, custom portrait will show both for male and female characters. In said file, you can also type a description to the portrait that will show in the list (default description is item filename), it is the first column in M_BG.lua file. Reinstalling the WeiDU core component will wipe all the changes, reinstalling the WeiDU update portrait picker component will update the file while keeping all the changes. To keep the changes before reinstalling the main component, either manually back-up the file or use the WeiDU backup M_BG.lua component. - Autoroller (by Mr2150, based on work by Faydark): If you toggle CheatMode On, in the options “UI Settings” screen, you will be able to use several methods to ease the rolling stats process. - Stored values are visible and more view options are available in the stat rolling screen (by Mr2150). - Spell selection screens show just spell icons that are all visible at the same time without a need to scroll down. - Random Character Generation (by Mr2150): Pressing on the “Random Character” button will generate a completely random character. Only the portrait will always be the same “random male” or “random female”.

Save/Load Screens

- Save slots list in the Load screen is stretched to fit the height of the screen, save slots are thinner, double click on the save slot loads it as usual. - There are three filters in the Save and Load screens that allow searching for saves by save name, character name or by chapter.

Multiplayer Screen

- Bigger screen size.

Main Gameplay Screen

- Sidebar graphics and button positions are overhauled and put to the bottom of the screen. - Pressing and holding the „Area Map“ button will open a Worldmap screen. Pressing and holding the „Reveal Details“ button while Cheat Mode toggle is On will explore the area as per „C:ExploreArea“ command. - Actionbar graphics and slot positions are altered, quickloot button is now on the right side with hand icon. - Quickloot bar is overhauled. There are two modes now - advanced and expert. Advanced mode displays ground items in expandable list with item names (press "E" button for quick expanding/collapsing), while expert mode shows up to 60 item icons at the same time in the customizable area. Go to UI Settings menu within Gameplay options to customize it.

Dialog Box

- Dialog box is completely overhauled. It now appears on the top of the screen and resizes depending on text content. You can also hold its upper bar and drag it (or use "left/right arrow button). The "Old messages" box is separate in place of usual "world message log" box and you can toggle it on/off with a button and the game will remember the toggle. You can also use "journal button" to copy the current text to the journal as user notes. - Pressing pause will not advance the dialog.

Journal

- There are two journal modes now available for toggle. The small flexible one from an unmodded game and a large one, that resembles other in-game screens, it is paused with darkened background. - Both journals have many convenience tweaks and filters (from Mr2150's "Journal Fixes" mod) and are toggable by pressing "chapter" button. Default mode, that is remembered, must be selected in UI Setting options menu. - Clicking on the Journal popup now opens a journal and expands the quest it refers to.

Inventory

- Bigger screen size, positions of elements are altered. Combat statistics boxes area larger and are not replaced by comparison boxes when an item is picked. Number of Attacks line is in the damage text box. - Split stack window now shows a slider for more convenient choosing of amount.

Record

- Bigger screen size, there are five main columns now displaying as much information as possible at the same time. There is an expand/contract button at the bottom of the first column that expands/contracts combat information details. There is also a new tab „Proficiencies / Skills“ in the fifth column that shows detailed information about proficiencies and skills.

Mage/Priest Spellbooks

- Bigger screen size, spells are shown as slot icons and are all visible at the same time without a need to scroll the list. Hovering over a known spell icon will display it’s description - Arrows for incrementing/decrementing spell levels are reintroduced.

Worldmap

- Worldmap screen is stretched to fit the height of the screen. Travel button is removed, use double click to travel. - All map icons in the original BG campaign now show travel times (with the WeiDU „update strings“ component it just shows „Hours:“), you must start a new game for this change to apply. - Note, there is currently a bug which shows an empty scrollable space beneath the world map when the size is stretched from the default, I have reported this and hopefully it will be fixed.

Store/Containers

- Bigger screen size, bigger store item list, bottom store icons are placed on the left. - Store item list filters allow to search by name for specific items (by Mr2150). - Identify screen item list only shows unidentified items (by lefreut). - Stealing multiple items at the same time is allowed (by lefreut).
