[Party building] Fear my team of thieves!

$

0
Currently in a new run with a swashbuckler called Henri de Baldur (just reached level 2).

-> I'm planning to make an evil team of thieves !
- We will defeat Tazok's bandits (these competitors must be taken care of).
- We will be feared in the world of shadows...
- We'll be a legend in the Sword Coast !
- ... and basically we'll just try to burgle every house and rob everybody.

My planned team:
Henri de Baldur - Swashbuckler - Lockpicking and Find traps, Longswords, any idea for other proficiencies?
Montaron - F/T - He's gonna be my scout (Move Silently, Hide in Shadows) and backstabber, Short Swords, Slings
Xzar - Necromancer - arcane magic, fun, crazyness
Eldoth - Pickpockets, Scimitar/Wakizashi/Ninjato or Spear ?? + Longbow with poison arrows
Skie - well, I don't know what she can be useful for... any ideas? maybe set traps
Tiax - coz he's a priest AND thief, and I could benefit from a priest :), I don't know how to use him though

Please share any comments/ideas, how would you build this team/develop these PCs? Thanks a lot!

Once again: IWDEE modded to the hilt, let's use it to try new kits!

I've finally crafted another heavily-modded IWD install. The salient rule-change mods include the following:
- Divine Remix, a few kits
- Faiths & Powers divine kits and sphere system
- Tome & Blood arcane kits and changes
- Might & Guile kits and feats
- Scales of Balance item and proficiency system changes

There are actually almost too many options, even for a game where you roll full 6-person parties. Last time around I tested stuff by doing all single-class parties: 6 bards, 6 druids, 6 clerics, 6 rangers, etc. That was interesting, but became kind of annoying. This time I'm thinking about doing more well-rounded parties, built around a theme:

The naturist party:
- Mountain Ranger (FnP)
- Arctic Druid (FnP)
- Fire Mystic (FnP)
- Meistersinger (MnG)
- Psypher (MnG)
- Druid/Thief (FnP)

The elvish/fey party:
- Bladesinger (MnG)
- Elven Archer (FnP)
- Cleric of Corellon (DR+FnP)
- Sylvan Disciple (TnB)
- Spellfilcher (MnG)
- Bard (MnG - should be Elven Minstrel but whatever)

The roguish party:
- Corsair (MnG)
- Stalker (FnP)
- Swashbuckler (MnG)
- Alchemist (MnG)
- Illusionist (TnB)
- Acolyte of Mask (FnP)

The bardic party:
- Gallant (MnG)
- Skald (MnG)
- Jongleur (MnG)
- Loresinger (MnG)
- Cleric of Tymora (FnP)
- Jinxer (MnG)

The divine party:
... (still thinking about it - basically a F/C or two, 2-3 single-class clerics, a C/M and a C/T)

The naturist party has decent power and good healing. So I'll probably start with them, as a warm-up. The elven and roguish and bardic parties will be more challenging - less tanky, and not much healing available - so probably more interesting as well. Should be fun!

Legend of Zelda

I just got my Wii out of the closet and hooked it up for my 6 year old daughter yesterday so she could play some Super Mario. After she went to bed, I decided to pop in Twilight Princess to play for a bit. 5 hours later I realized it was way past my bedtime and had to turn it off...At one point I was a big fan of the series, but haven't played it in several years (Skyward Sword was the last one I played when it first came out, but never finished it.) I've played several, but not all, of the games, and I'd say Twilight Princess is my favorite. Majora's Mask is a close second, but I was never able to finish that one...it is super complex, like ridiculously so. I also really loved Wind Waker...I think that one might be the one to get my daughter interested in the series, with the "cute" art style.
I'm curious if anyone else here plays these games, what your favorites are, and what your kids (if you have kids) like.

jimfix-v2-1 removed from install couldnt unpack properly
if someone could teach me how to manually add jimfix-v2-1 to the big world install and the wildmage17 mod that would be cool.
can i just run&install them after the big mod install or will that conflict with the big install

PROBLEMS:
1) not sure how to install jimfix-v2-1 and wildmage17 mods after the install or how to add them to the bigworldproject.
2) when i click on the world map the game crashes. also when i try to zone out of wakeens promenade the game crashes.
the forum isnt allowing me to attach this file i can email it or someone can teach me how to attach it

The story of my life and how Baldur's Gate ruined JRPGs for me.

$

So once upon a time I loved JRPGs and didn't even know there was a divide between "WRPGs" and "JRPGs".

I played through many a Final Fantasy game, Tales series, Fire Emblem, and other such JRPGs.
I dabbled into Kotor and Dragon age: Origins and enjoyed them but it wasn't until Baldur's Gate when I crossed the point of no return (no backward glances, our games of make believe are at an end!. . .oh wait hehe).

I had played Baldur's Gate as a child when my brother had it but I also couldn't read back then and spent ages just exploring Candlekeep and sometimes I'd stumble into talking to Gorion and watching him get murdered and having no idea what was going on lol.

Years later I see BG:EE I'm like, "Oh! I remember this! Wait, it's a D&D game? Oh crap I love Dungeons and Dragons!"

I had just started playing D&D in 2011 in a 3.5 game. I played 3.5, Pathfinder, and 5e mostly so I had no knowledge of 2e rules.

So I buy BG:EE do some research and install a no class/race restriction mod. I make an Elf Wizard (Necromancer) based on my very first D&D character in 3.5, a Drow Necromancer named Val'myr Zaur.

I mess around for a few days, playing for 30 mins at a time. Then I remember one day just binging on the game and getting sucked into the narrative and characters. I fell in love with the pause system and kept going. I met Alora and absolutely fell in love with her character. I RPed my character and her having a relationship despite no one actually existing lol.

I then finally beat Sarevok. I felt SO HYPE. I HAD to get the second one. . . but BG2:EE wasn't released.

So I went and bought the original BG2. I made a new char, based on the old one. I kept re-rolling until I got the same stats. I didn't even know the stat tomes existed on my first run of BG:EE so it wasn't too hard. I also hard very sub-par stats because I thought they worked like 3rd edition.

I missed Alora but found a new love, Aerie. I also loved Mazzy but unfortunately can't romance her T_T

I ventured through the game, defeating Irenicus and feeling even more hype!

Eventually BG2:EE came out and I instantly picked it up and played the whole thing as a Blackguard from start to the beginning of TOB. I've neve finish TOB :(

Now a delightful game called Bravely Default had come out on the 3ds. It's like the old Final Fantasy games I loved so much! I picked it up and played through 30 hours or so but it just felt so. . .meh. I didn't know what it was for the longest time. Then it struck me. I felt so invested in Baldur's Gate because I was my character. I wasn't playing a character.

The reason I fell in love with D&D was because I was my character.

I can still play things like Fire Emblem: Awakening where you make the protagonist but pre-generated characters in rpgs just don't work for me anymore :(

I feel bad because I try to go back and play things like FF4 and I just can't.

I played Kotor and DA:O again and discovered that beauty of being your character. I played Morrowind for the first time and had the same feeling.

I go and play FF12 (which is my favorite of the numbered series) and I just feel so. . .detached. I feel bad because my best friend is a JRPG fanatic like I used to be. We're now on opposite sides where he hates making characters and I hate playing pre-generated ones.

Oh Baldur's Gate! You might be my most favorite game series of all time but you ruined an entire genre for me XD

I'm wondering, has anyone else had similar feels? I'd also like to say I'm not trying to start a WRPG vs JRPG debate >_> I see the value of both and just now prefer WRPGs in general.

I also posted this in off topic as it's of Baldur's Gate but not directly about it. If I'm posting this in the wrong place then just say :3

TL;DR version.

Baldur's Gate made me realize being myself in a video game is way more fun and emotionally investing for me than playing a pre-generated character like in most JRPGs. Anyone else feel mah feels?

The Baldur's Gate Wiki is in a poor state.

Heya, everyone!

Since yesterday (or so ... my sleeping rythmn is way off) I have been trying to fill some gaps and correct errors in the Baldur's Gate Wiki. Well, the Wiki at this point has more holes than a swiss cheese and even though I do love me some swiss cheese, there is only so many holes without ... you get my point.

I know that a lot of folks here on the forums have an astoundingly detailed knowledge on all things BG, so it would be really awesome if you could take all that knowledge and put it over into the wiki.
Check for errors in old articles, make new ones, fill red links, expand stubs.
I know we can turn the wiki into a useful resource for the fandom again.

Also, speaking of which, the Icewind Dale Wiki is in an even worse state ...

Inquisitor or Cavalier Solo? BG1-TOB

$

I guess the endgoal is to do a good amount of melee damage, but also have fun throughout the entire saga. I might take Imoen with me in BG1 for haste, lockpicking, and immunity to petrification. Can easily farm exp with her to dual class her if it's just us two.

BG2 I will solo with the help of Yoshimo to unlock some areas for me (City Gates Lich, Kangaxx area) but will kick him out after he has done his job.

So that leaves me with the choice for Inquisitor or Cavalier... I am really interested in the Cavalier due to spellcasting and if I am being honest with myself, DUHM is the only real reason I am considering a Cavalier. Thinking long term.

I was planning on wielding Carsomyr no matter which character I choose, as I have gotten tired of dual-wielding damage lords. I wouldn't roll a paladin for that.

Since BGEE doesn't really have any great 2h's until late game I might decide to level using a 1h and a shield. Just curious on how I should build and what 1h I should use that will be useful in the entire game? I suppose I can get Varscona pretty quickly, and Daystar in BG2 is really nice for undead fighting. I know eventually I will want to specialize in a single handed weapon to tank with for fun when I don't want to chop up people with the holy avenger.

So....

Which 1h should I specialize in?
Should I specialize in it before 2h?
Should I choose Cavalier or Inquisitor?

On one hand inquisitor is pretty Overpowered for mage fights, but on the other... DUHM (late game), healing spells (all game), poison resist (early game), and having dispel on carsomyr eventually anyways I am kinda torn.

Baeloth & M'Khiin not at Coastway Crossing?

I started my second run through of SoD, & was planning to go evil this time after my goody two shoes LG Sunsoul Monk run. But right after I zone into the Coastway Crossing zone, I see a message that M'Khiin & Dimension Door. Not long after that I see a similar message for Baeloth. When I go to the ersatz Black Pits site, nobody is there - just a few chickens & the like - unlike my first run, where a crowd was watching (& heckling) the proceedings. Baeloth & M'Khiin are nowhere to be seen.

Is there a reason for this? I have no mods installed.

I would like to show you early version portrait of Cernd, Anomen, Viconia and Mazzy.

The most interesting are Anomen and Cernd. Especially Cernd, he looks like an indian shaman. What a interesting concept! And what do you think about that?

Scripts Contribution Post

I had the idea of using this discussion to post your custom scripts(ones you have made with NearInfinity or the like)
I think I have spent more time learning about scripting than playing the game itself xD.
So I would like to start sharing three related scripts I made myself; partially tested.

It is GuardEE, GuardEE2, GuardEE3.

In a party of mine consisting of three melee warriors on the front and 3 ranged on the back I found it quite annoying that when I scouted for traps with one the ranged thief and saw enemies, the other 3 warriors with Standard attack AI rushed forward to kill the enemies, triggering the not yet disarmed traps on their way.

So I created these scripts, that work quite similar to "guard",to tell them to stay in position and attack the enemy when encountering them at a close range, enough to prevent them triggering the trap. I also wanted some kind of smart targetting so each warrior targeted only one enemy, on an attempt to hold back all possible enemies that were chasing the thief who runned and placed himself behind the front line.

GuardEE Would make the player attack the nearestenemy that is 10 feet-reach
GuardEE2 would make the player attack the secondnearestenemy(if any) that is 10 feet-reach, if there is not a second enemy, he will go for the nearestenemy
GuardEE3 would make the player attack the thirdnearestenemy(if any) that is 10 feet-reach, if there is not a second enemy, he will go for the secondnearestenemy, and if not he will end up going for the nearest.

So you would assign each of the three warrior a different Guard Script.

Fairly enough, the targetting works quite well, yet the defense formation breaks because they chase the enemies that quite often keep chasing the chicken thief who has gone behind the front. Note that I used attack instead of attackoneround.

You are free to improve those scripts.

GuardEE3 sample code:
IF
See(ThirdNearestEnemyOf(Myself))
Range(ThirdNearestEnemyOf(Myself),10)
THEN
RESPONSE #100
Attack(ThirdNearestEnemyOf(Myself))
END

IF
See(SecondNearestEnemyOf(Myself))
Range(SecondNearestEnemyOf(Myself),10)
THEN
RESPONSE #100
Attack(SecondNearestEnemyOf(Myself))
END

IF
See(NearestEnemyOf(Myself))
Range(NearestEnemyOf(Myself),10)
THEN
RESPONSE #100
Attack(NearestEnemyOf(Myself))
END

Android Help - Viconia bugged and enabling console

Hi folks,

My Viconia recently bugged out in the Rassad quest and I have no saves before the start of the quest where I can fix her. I have read here that this bug is due to a dialogue prompting error, but I have no idea how to fix it as nothing seems to work. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Also, how do I enable the console? Celestial Fury rotted on the ground for some reason and I'd like to restore it. Thanks.

Magic or melee for the solo run?

$

Good day,

As I mentioned in another thread I used to play Baldur's Gate in the past, but had a long break, until I got BG:EE and BG2:EE. I don't know why, but I had an urge to solo the whole series, even though I understand that playing without more party members means you skip some content. So I choose Dwarven Fighter/Cleric (to gain as much immunity as possible and tank everything), but now I want something completely different - an ultimate spellcaster.

However, I've read somewhere on the forum that at the end of ToB rather melee is preferred. Does it mean casters are useless, or is it possible to solo with a mage? I am not using any mods yet, but am open for suggestions. Please bear in mind that I do not want the game to be too hardcore, I will introduce myself to powergaming later on, but right now I am still trying to remind myself the game more casually.

If it is possible to solo the game with a caster, then let me ask you about the class. I was thinking about Wild Mage or Sorcerer. It is NOT a no-reload game, so Wild Mage can be considered, but I am open for any suggestions.

Thank you in advance for any help.

Looking for a lost (?) BG2 mod: Xzar, Monty, a new section of Athkatla, etc.

Hi

Some years ago I installed a mod that, among other things: reintroduced Xzar and Monty (the ones you killed in the Harper quest were just clones), introduced a new section of Atkathla accessed by paying a fee to a merchant in the slums; this new area had trolls, vendors, bystanders, etc. in the street, a beautifully done Inn in which you were assaulted by the doppelganger assassinw from the sewer inn in Baldur's Gate; and so on and so forth. The mod was not quite finished, there were tons of loose ends and strange objects such as foodstuffs. Does anyone know what it was called or who wrote it? I've trawled through the Spellhold Studio downloads, googled and brainstormed, but to no avail. I thought perhaps this was @LavaDelVortel 's work, part of the Colours of Infinity series, but as far as I can tell from SHS, that is not the case.

Post something that everyone likes but you

[BGEE, BGEE 2, IWD:EE MOD] Lost Druid Kit 1.3v

$

0
Welcome!
This mod introduces to the player a new druid kit - Lost Druid. It is based on the Lost Druid from The Complete Druid's Handbook. This kit will be a part of my NPC mod, but making it will take some time and at the beginning, I'm going to release it in my native language. In the meantime I hope to get some feedback on the kit alone.

LOST DRUID

The strangest members of the druidic order, Lost Druids find that many other druids no longer consider them kin. The Lost Druids come from lands that have been maliciously destroyed - forests burned to the ground, swamps drained, mountains ruined by mining, and so on. Rather than try to rebuild or move on, a Lost Druid allows his heart to darken from brooding on the devastation and embraces strange magic to seek revenge.

Advantages:
- May cast Summon Dread Wolf once per day at level 6. Gains additional Summon Dread Wolf at level 12th and 18th.

- Six necromancy spells are added to the Lost Druid's repertoire, all the way up to 6th level. These are listed below:
1st level: Laroch's Minor Draining.
2nd level: Horror.
3rd level: Skull Trap.
4th level: Contagion.
5th level: Slay Living.
6th level: Death Spell.

Disadvantages:
- Can cast only the reversed versions of cure spells.
- Cannot Shapeshift.
- Alignment restricted to neutral and chaotic evil.

It is very simple mod (my first!), nothing to complicated but I think that it gives an interesting twist on a druid kit.
And I'd like to thank @Wisp for helping me with weidu :)

This mod is compatible with BG2 (it works with total conversion mods also, at least it works with Classic Adventures for sure), BG:EE and BG2:EE.
Polish translation is available.

Changelog:
1.3v - the temporary fix for 2.0 is no longer required. I'd suggest uninstalling 1.2 and installing 1.3v.
1.2v - 2.0 and IWD:EE compatibility
1.1v - Fixed crash in BG:EE after summoning Dread Wolf

Please check out my second mod - http://forum.baldursgate.com/discussion/36342/bg-ee-bg-ee-2-mod-card-kit-0-2v-wip-eng-pl

[Kickstarter] Pixel Princess Blitz: Sandbox Roguelike Action RPG

Stumbled across this little gem when I checked out kickstarter today and I simply fell in love with Pixel Princess Blitz. Given that it boasts of things which I love about games! Sandbox? Check! Roguelike dungeons? Check! Simulation elements? Check! Both turn-based and real time gameplay? Check! Romances? Check! Pixels? Check! Dynamic story with multible endings? Check! Random encounters which are decided via dice rolls? Check! Cuteness is justice? Check, check and check! :3

Pixel Princess Blitz needs to make €77,700 'till the campaign ends on the 9th Februrary. But seeing that it already surpassed €12,000 on its very first day, I believe there's no doubt that Lanze Games (the creators) will get their game funded. And with a couple of stretch goals secured to boot as well. :)
