Would a Druid romance a vampire?

Doing an all female run through of BG/BG2, thinking of rolling a shapeshifter and romancing Hexxat. Obviously the werewolf/vampire romance sounds fun and very Underworld, but as a Druid wouldn't my PC view Hexxat as an unnatural abomination?

5th Level Sorcerer Spell Choices

$

After a long break, I've taken up another "Insane-no-extra-damage" SoD run with my favorite Necromancer PC and cast of (mostly) evil party members: Viconia, Dorn (I had M'Khiin until I reached Bridgefort), Safana, Edwin, and Baeloth. I've found that I really enjoy having the versatility of having three arcane casters in the party.

Baeloth just reached 10th level and now I'm faced with choosing his first 5th level spell. In the past, I've chosen Cloudkill as his first spell, and Lower Resistance for his second (which I think is vital later on in the game). However, from my previous run, I found that Lower Resistance could have come in handy at least a couple of times if I had taken it first, so I'm considering doing that this time around. As for Cloudkill, I can think of no other spell that would be more useful, given its recurring damage and insta-kill for lower-level mobs.

So my question is, which 5th level spells do you choose for your PC sorcerer or Baeloth? Why?

[MOD] Verr'Sza NPC (for BGEE and SoD)

$

0
I prepared something for those who believed there are too little evil fighters for BGEE and SoD (well, it was mostly about SoD). So here is Verr'Sza, the evil rakshasa ranger (it has his own kit, as most hunter kits won't work for someone like him).

Alignment: Chaotic Evil, Neutral Evil in SoD
Class: Ranger (Naztharune Ranger)
Race: Rakshasa

==> OVERVIEW

The mod introduces a new companion for BG1 - Verr'Sza, an evil rakshasa hunter. He may join your group in early BG1EE and stay with the group until the very end of Siege of Dragonspear expansion. He may be recruited in one of the rooms within the Friendly Arm Inn, but you must free him from a certain state first. He starts at 3rd level, so if you prefer having team members on more or less similar levels, it may be a good idea not to recruit him right after leaving Candlekeep.

The mod includes some go-and-kill quests, as well as a romance for both male and female characters (the only condition is not being of Lawful Good alignment). Although it's technically a romance, Verr'Sza isn't a very romantic character. It's more a matter of making him respect you and not trying to bind him in any way. He shouldn't be compared to Dorn, though. He may be protective in his twisted and blunt way.

Note that the mod may include language considered blunt or inappropriate for kids.

Mod was designed to work on EE. Never tried it on Tutu or BGT.
Consider this an open beta. There may still be some bugs.

==> NUMBER OF TALKS:

original campaign:
  • ~15 non-romantic talks (5 timered / timer-related talks; 10 situational talks)
  • ~11 romantic talks (mostly timered / timer-related talks)
  • at least 1 banter talk with every NPC, including EE NPCs (Neera, Dorn, Rasaad, Baeloth)
  • Some additional information and flirts available via the PIDs (player initiated dialogues)
  • some interjections
Siege of Dragonspear DLC:
  • ~6 non-romantic talks (3 timered / timer-related talks; 3 situational talks)
  • ~4 romantic talks (timered / timer-related talks / situational) + an "epilogue" talk
  • additional romantic content available through a 3rd character (available in Bhaalspawn's camps; ~5 talks)
  • Thrix the Profane reaction
  • few "head string" talks with other NPCs

The mod includes crossmod talks with Sirene NPC.

NOTE ON THE ROMANCE: If you want to romance Verr'Sza, you must suggest closure on your own. You may do it during one of the friend talks or in a "drunk talk". To trigger a drunk talk, make sure Verr'Sza is really drunk. He will start a talk then in which you may "dare" him.

So this is just a thread for interesting things that people have picked up over the years. While most of the information has been freely available for some time, the game is big enough that you might find something you missed. If not, it's still fun to see just how much detail the developers put in.

Did you know that if you are playing an elf named Drizzt, and your reputation is under 12, Drizzt will attack you? Did you also know that if you kill the three mages guarding the skyship devices in Baldur's Gate, then Shandalar skips the 'asking' part of sending you to the Ice Island? Not surprising, given that they were his daughters. Guy is probably a bit angry at you.

The Problem With BG2

$

We all love the Baldur's Gate Saga. It's full of adventure and the characters are well developed and etc.

But, among my real-life-friends, I see that people like BG more than BG2.

Ok, BG2 is an awesome game. We all know it. But BGEE is, IMHO opinion, better.

And I was wondering myself: why?

Well, the reason I prefer BG is because BG2 have tons of damn time-triggered quests. My actual save have 108 days and I've just arrived in Brynnlaw. Tons and tons of rests so I can get the quests from the NPCs.

I've had to wait eighteen days for Jan's quest, for example.

Everytime I finish BG I want to start a new game in BG. When I finish BG2 my feeling is "finally!"

Specially now with SoD when you have some big challenges in BG.

Well, but I would like to ask you, fellow adventurer: is there something you don't like in BG2? If there is what is it?

What's your best stat roll ever?

A few minutes ago I was rolling for my new Ranger/Cleric (I have severe restartitis) and this is what I pulled up:

I don't think I've ever rolled a 98 in thousands of rolls throughout my BG experience so I am super excited, the strength modifier could be better but I really can't complain too much.

What's your best roll ever, and what class was it with?

Mac and Windows multiplayer with same game copy?

Hi all,

Hope you can help me.

I'd like to introduce my gf to the game, she uses a mac and I use a windows 7 laptop. Now, I just started to dl the game onto her mac from my account, and it seems I don't need to buy the game a 2nd time to do this? (Or maybe I do and i'm not that far into the process yet)?

My question is, if I dl the game from my acc (without paying) onto her mac, will the fact that they're not separate licences stop us from being able to multiplayer?

My internet is so slow, that I don't want to 'just try' it, because in reality thats a 6 hour experiment, 12 if it doesn't work and i have to purchase separately for her.

Thanks in advance =)

Dungeon Crawlers

Hey dudes.

I have the curse/blessing of working from home during 4 out of 5 days of the work week, and sometimes that involves a couple hours of spare time. Should I be using this spare time to further my career and work on myself as a human being? Absolutely. Is that what I do? Absolutely not.

Yesterday, during some of my spare time, I started playing Wizardry 8, which I bought from GOG many months ago when it was on sale, and never looked at since. Turns out, it's a hell of a lot of fun, and I then spent pretty much the entire night after work playing it as well. (I even named my Hobbit Rogue "Monty" after a certain BG NPC ;) )

Believe it or not, this is actually my first experience with the more traditional type of dungeon crawlers, so I started looking at some other big names in the genre. Some that stuck out were the Might & Magic series, and Legend of Grimrock I & II. I understand games like these aren't nearly as popular nowadays, but are there any others you guys would recommend? What do you all think of dungeon crawlers? So far I'm having a blast, and I feel bad that I've ignored this genre for so long.

BG EE for Mac, crashes after character creation

$

Hello everybody

I'm familiar with Baldur's Gate, since i played it from the very first moment in 1995. Now I'm trying it the first time on my Mac Book Pro, but it isn't going that well ,-) I was able to install the game, but it crashes after the character creation. Below some informations. I'm thankful if anybody can give me some advice & help.

- download via Baldurs Gate Launcher
- Baldurs Gate EE Version: 2.3.67.3
- Mac: MacBook Pro, Retina, 13", 2014
- 2.6 GHz Intel Core i5
- 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
- OSX Yosemite 10.10

Problem description:
I was able to install the game. The game starts until the start screen:
- I'm able to choose & play the tutorial until i try to save the tutorial game = the game crashes
- I'm able to choose the 'full game' Baldurs Gate & create a character, after I choose difficulty = the game crashes
- I'm able to choose black pits & choose characters, after I choose difficulty = the game crashes
- i realized, that i can choose the german language, but after i restart the game i'm having english language again
- i realized, that i can choose a different resolution (options > graphics: scale user interface), but after i restart the game i'm having the old resolution
(I COULD compensate this problem with marking the box 'play in low resolution' at the icon informations of 'Baldurs Gate Enhanced Editionon'-Icon, on my mac - but that doesn't help me since the game doesn't start and always crashes)

After the game crashes i'm able to have a look at the log file from my 'OS X yosemite':

Thank you all!

EE Keeper, Updated to v1.0.3

At the suggestion of @Dee, this thread will be used to post updates (as and when I have time), looking into bug reports, and a host of other things.

FAQ Quick Links

Download

There are two different downloads for Keeper on Windows, and one for Mac (in most cases). The two choices on Windows are:- a standard ZIP file, or an (Inno) installer.

Unless otherwise stated, an archive unpacker will be required in order to open the compressed ZIP archive. WinZip, WinRAR, 7-Zip, etc.

The default location for the installer is 'Program Files'. As of Windows Vista, User Account Control (UAC) forbids writing files to directories within Program Files unless the User Account Control feature is disabled. If you use the installer, you can now opt to have the INI file saved in AppData during installation.

Previous versions of EE Keeper can be found on SourceForge.

Mac Wineskin Wrapper - Current Version: v1.0.3.4

Modification Disclaimer

EE Keeper is a save game editor. It can also be used as a character and creature editor. It's not a mod itself, but it can be used to make modifications. If asked by a member of the Beamdog team in reply to a bug report, "are you using any mods?" please be aware that this counts as a mod, as it is used to modify something outside of the game. Most modifications achievable via EE Keeper are harmless, this is just an advisory notice.

Compatibility

Mac: This is a big question for a lot of people. The answer is that it is not officially supported. Some trials on Mac via Wineskin, by @Nifft, have been done and it seems to work, depending on the version - it will be up to others to help with that should any issues arise. More details here. @AstroBryGuy, has recently started creating wrappers for new versions of EE Keeper. Please note that a new wrapped version will be released behind the Windows version; it requires that he gets the latest version and then create and upload a wrapper. For future builds I will be submitting one to him sooner so that he can have it wrapped and uploaded in conjunction with the Windows release.

Linux: Though not ideal, Keeper works with the use of Wine and it functions well enough. To load different languages, environmental variables may need to be set; e.g. Exec=env LC_ALL=zh_CN.UTF-8 WINEPREFIX="[location of wine]" wine '[location of file]'.

Windows: The current version should work on everything from XP to Windows 10. If you encounter a problem, please see the details in the next post on reporting any issues you find.

As a final note: just because a new thread is made, and the release is more of a Live/REL version, it doesn't mean that the program is bug free, nor does it mean that I won't be tweaking it any more (I will, and it will be a long term project/hobby). If you come across any issues, or you are in doubt over something, feel free to post and either myself of some other helpful community member will try to help overcome it. If you find something, and you're certain that it's a bug (i.e. portraits not displaying when they should), feel free to create a ticket for it here. If the ticket is not a bug, but a misunderstanding, then it will be moderated as such. Feature requests can also be made, just set the 'Report Type' option to 'Feature Request'. When trying to bring a bug to my attention, please specify what platform you are using (Mac or Windows) and exactly what you are or were trying to do at the time of the bug.

Obviously, like any program, there are bugs and there are people who voluntarily test and people who report bugs. If you've tested this to make sure it works in a beta, you'll be listed here. If you're not specifically testing for bugs, but still find one and take the time to come here and report it, you'll be listed. If you're not listed here (I may have simply forgotten), send me a PM and you'll get added.

Legacy of Bhaal Difficulty

$
0
0
First time player of EE, longtime player of all the IE games. I design my parties very carefully with all good stats (I know not everyone chooses that route which is fine, just trying to give the background). I also have tweaks/mods installed that allow me to run with for example Half-Orc paladins (which is a big advantage). So I figured, I am pretty good at these games, and I have a strong party (for reference, Dragon Disciple, Inquisitor, Cavalier, Berserker, Ranger/Cleric, Swashbuckler including 3 Half-Orcs - LOTS of early melee power). Why not try Legacy of Bhaal?

Even with a full party of six, I almost lost someone in the first fight with Shank, one of the two guys who attacks you in Candlekeep. I figured, OK, this mode will keep me on my toes. At this point my party has almost no armor, little in the way of preferred weapons. I healed up and went to do the "killing rats" quest. Well, it didn't work out that way. Those rats handed me my ass. It wasn't even close. I managed to kill one of them before my entire party was unconscious from the non-lethal damage.

So... is the whole game tuned this ridiculously? Is LOB meant to be like IWD2's Heart of Fury, where you are meant to be higher than level one? Or did they custom tune the rat encounter as a joke because it's non-lethal damage anyway.

I don't want to invest time into this difficulty if I'll be finding more fights like that. Any advice?
Thanks!

[in-progress] Will of the Wisps - Shamanic enhancements

$
0
0
"Will of the Wisps" is my new BG2EE mod in-progress. I don't usually show my work when it's not ready, but I decided to make an exception. The mod is to introduce more shamanism in BG2. I understand that many people just don't play shamans because they do not get their own Stronghold and there is no shamanic NPCs in BG2. That resulted in making this class very little popular. What's more, right now original game does not include any kits for shaman class.

In the mod you will receive:
  • Shaman's stronghold, that hopefully blend in with other original strongholds;
  • A new kit for shamans: witchlight shaman;
  • A brand new NPC: Will, the undead shaman (witchlight) with short friendship track;
  • A change in original shaman's description to get rid of the "no stronghold" line;
  • Some new items for shamans and undead character (Will, Hexxat and others added by other possible mods)
Just like in my other mods, you will get at least one new area, some graphics, items, characters. The mod is not going to introduce romance with Will. He is long gone and as much as he may tell you about someone he loved, he won't romance the Bhaalspawn. He will talk to other NPCs. The mod will include ToB part for will.

I'm not going to give you all details or release dates as it just takes time. I would also like to thank @Artemius_I who prepared the kit for shaman. I just came up with some ideas, but it is he who made it. (Aremius, where were you when I was working on my previous mods!? ;) Thanks, really. You're great.)

To not leave you empty-handed, just with few promisses, here are some screenshots. Note that content may change a bit with time.

So I conquered SCS Ust Natha on a whim and with some cheese [PICTURES]

Inspired by an earlier post https://forums.beamdog.com/discussion/61918/spoilers-is-it-possible-at-all-to-conquer-ust-natha-with-scs/p1

I wondered if it's possible for my party which is currently in Ust Natha. Mind you, my party is quite low level for such an insane feat as they only recently got their HLAs. And I happened upon a strategy which most of you would probably call it cheese. Nevertheless, I had to reload several times as the amount of spells I'm being spammed once I'm visible actually makes my computer lag and I died from god-knows-what.

For this strat, you will need the Staff of Magi(SOM) as you will be continuously revealed so you need to quickly click on your SOM to be invisible again. If you are slow, you will be VERY QUICKLY slaughtered - it's no joke.

As the demons(BALORS, NEBASSU and GLABREZU) are able to see through invisibility, they will spam you with spells such as Dispel/Remove Magic and Silence and all kinds of debuff spells. I had on my Cloak of Mirroring, Staff of Magi, and cast Spell Trap on myself just to counter against spells that managed to bypass the cloak of mirroring.

So basically you have this guy as bait for the demons and spell casters so that your own spell casters can safely cast their high level spells from behind. Crucial spells are: Firestorm(best), Death Fog, Storm of Vengeance, etc. I also had Jaheira cast Creeping Doom which was incredibly effective.

I also had to fight off a few rounds of skirmishes that manage to find me on the top level: a few Devas easily stopped them. I would recommend focusing on these skirmishes first and let the mob below accumulate. I wasted a few fire storms on earlier mobs which were pretty mild as compared to the later ones.

Now, without further ado, here are the pictures. Hope they are self-explanatory. Took me around 2 hours(with reloads) to finally clear the whole base!

IT'S LIKE THE GREAT WAR

FINALLY: AFTER AN HOUR OR SO

SO SO SO MUCH LOOT.

New NPCs. What are they?

I havn't play the game yet, but I kinda planning my future party. From what I already know there's a lack of evil NPCs (except the new ones) and Glint (cleric\thief) is a simple Tiax's duplicate (very sad). Most of the BG data bases weren't uptadet to the time of SOD release...
So could I have a moment of your time discussing the game. Could you guys be so kind and tell me the new NPC stats. I guess someone somewhere already posted their stats, but I'm not really in the mood to browse all this shit interviews and gender discussions spammed all around the forum.
If you don't want to spoil here in the general discussion thread, feel free to send me a PM.
Thank you.

P.S.:
And some more important question:
If I end the first game with Xzar and Monty - do they appear in SOD or not? Is there a way (legal or not) to keep them?
Or even trickier, if I complete the game with my PC + 1 custom made character. Can I somehow import him into SOD or is he gone forever?
And if I complete the SOD DLC can I import the final SOD savegame into BG2EE or is it impossible?

Is there any reason to buy the original Icewind Dale instead of the Enhanced Edition?

Hi guys. I'm a newbie to Icewind Dale - never played any of the IWD games.

Is there any reason I would not buy the IWD:EE, and instead buy the original IWD? Or is it a no brainier to buy the Enhanced Edition?

I would also like to play Icewind Dale 2. I am assuming there won't be any EE's for that game, or at least not anytime soon?

I am assuming one cannot import characters from the IWD:EE to the sequel. Is that perhaps a reason to buy the original? Is this a big deal, or is importing not important?

Any help and opinions are appreciated!
