So Paradox is doing it.
image

A bit weird for me since I live where it's set. I liked that tidal wave coming at that stupid ferris wheel they built on the waterfront, though ;)

I know a lot of people here are fans, I've played the original probably about once a year since it was released. I even used to play the table top game and participated in a LARP back in the '90s.

Release date is supposed to be Q1 of 2020.

Custom NPC Portraits Masterthread [Spoilers, obviously]

$

0
Hello everyone :) First of all, I am aware, that there already exist some threads about custom NPC portraits but I found them all to be rather confusing, so here is my attempt to make a proper masterthread where everyone can easily find whatever portrait(s) they want to use for their game. This thread is under constant construction! That's why I highly encourage you to post your own works and finds here (don't forget to source), so that I can add them to the startpost. So check back once in a while, in case there may be the perfect portrait you have always been looking for ;) Here are a few highly subjective* "quality ensurance" guidelines: 1. The portraits shouldn't clash too much with the in-game art styles (i.e. too cartoony, cell-shading, b/w, etc.) --- Exception: Complete packs with portraits for most/all NPC companions 2. No simple "facelifts" (meaning that they are only mildly photoshopped versions of the official ones; it would be nice though if someone else could make a different masterthread for these) 3. No obvious "facesteals" (i.e. popular actors, characters from other media, etc.) and joke portraits 4. They should resemble the original designs to at least some degree (i.e. don't just suggest any random drow portrait for Viconia) 5. They need to fit size wise. If half the face would be cut off or there would be too much negative space for the in-game version, it's out. *that means that there are almost certainly going to be folks who will disagree with my decisions on wether an image goes into the gallery or not Depending on how this thread goes, I might sharpen or lighten the guidelines on the go.

nwsync feedback & discussion thread

@niv, I have some questions and comments based on reading your doc over here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1eYRTd6vzk7OrLpr2zlwnUk7mgUsyiZzLoR6k54njBVI/edit#heading=h.70hrnjef5wv3 I figured I'd start a thread rather than PM to invite discussion, hope that's okay. Thank you for the documentation and work so far! Questions/Comments: 1) If a server is passworded, will the game check that the player knows the password before downloading assets? 2) If a player has assets in HAKs/TLKs locally already, I expect nwsync won't source stuff from there unless a player manually jumps through a lot of hoops to seed their repository? That's probably not a feature I'd spend time on, but the thought did occur. 3) Our server still runs v1.69 and has server-only hak full of assets players DON'T need. There's various reasons for this and I'd be 100% okay with players downloading the contents of this HAK, but they don't need it and it is a waste of space on the player's side. Would you be open to giving the ability to mark specific HAKs as "private" or "server-side" in the Module Properties Custom Content tab? This would tell nwsync to skip the contents of these particular HAKs, if any. It would be the module designer's responsibility to get these settings correct. I have the impression server HAKs are not particularly unique to our world, but I don't get out much to other worlds. :) I'll play with the thing a bit over the next couple weeks as time permits, but I thought it wouldn't hurt to start a discussion in parallel. -Dave

Vienxay NPC for BG:EE
m1yy73zlffay.png
Intro:

Listen here, peasant. I am Vienxay of a noble, powerful, and illustrious elven house. The eldest of my sisters, I had quite the prestige and influence in Evermeet’s high social circles. Then, I was set up, framed for murder by my master, who was secretly a practitioner of Shar’s shadow weave. Now, I am tracking her down, and I will have my vengeance. With a small bit of your help, of course. Find me outside the Friendly Arm Inn if you wish to aid, I tire of being idle in these human lands while she still remains at large. You’ll find no better mage, or thief, for I excel in the magic of Mystra’s weave, with the innate gift of shadow magic. I am an obvious choice.

Overview

This mod adds a new joinable NPC to the game: Vienxay, a Mage/Shadowdancer.

She can be found outside the Friendly Arm Inn. Due to her evil alignment, she will leave parties of 19 or 20 Reputation, unless her quest is complete, in which upon reaching 18 reputation, there is a chance to shift her alignment to neutral.

Her starting level and spells vary with the players level, allowing her to be recruited at any point.

Stats:

STR: 13
DEX: 17
CON: 10
INT: 18
WIS: 10
CHA: 11
Total: 79

Alignment: Neutral Evil
Proficiencies: 1 Dagger, 1 Dart

Vienxay starts with custom gloves that give her 20% bonus to hide and move silently, 15% to pickpocket, and 10% to open lock. These cannot be removed.

Quest & Relationship
Vienxay has 7 talks with the PC. These can be considered friendship, though you can pick flirty dialogue choices at your leisure.

The PC can also initiate dialogue with Vienxay, opening up even more talks that appear as the game goes on, or they can ask how she is, get her opinion on what to do, or ask about a companion.

After talks have progressed to a certain point, Vienxay can make wands for the player, so long as she has the needed materials in her inventory.

Vienxay's quest requires the party to track down and kill her master. There are multiple resolutions to most dialogues within the quest. 16 or more Charisma can be useful to persuade Vienxay to stay if the player constantly chooses options that anger her during the quest.

Vienxay has at least one banter with every joinable NPC.
Vienxay also carries several crossmod banters with my other NPCs, Kale and Emily.

Installation

Unzip the files into your Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition folder (usually C:/Program Files/Baldur's Gate Enhanced Edition/Data/00766) and run Setup-Vienxay.exe

If you get any errors, please post in the Vienxay NPC topic on Beamdog Forums, whatever site the mod is uploaded on, or a PM to me personally.

General Questions:
Q: Is this comptabile with EET?

A: Yes, it is. Please let me know if there are any issues.

Q: Is there any romance content with the PC?

A: Not in BG:EE1, and undecided in future installments.

Q: Can I request crossmod content with a favorite character?

A: Yes. I will do my best to contact the author first. If they do not respond I will write up banters between them.

Q: When will the SoD portion be released?

A: The SoD portion will be released in three stages. The first stage should be set by March 9th, and will not include any talks or banters, just the joining and kicking out dialogues.
The second stage will include all content excluding banters. The third stage will include banters. The latter two will have their release dates revealed later.

Q: When will the BG2 portion be released?

A: After I finish all of the planned NPCs for BG1, I will work on their BG2 content, and have a timeline listed for each.
Feedback
I am very happy to receive feedback. Please post in the forum thread where this mod was uploaded, so I can implement ideas and criticism accordingly.
Future Planned Content:
V1.2 Bug Fixing/Different Class Options. SoD content up to Chapter 9.
V1.3 Full SoD release.
V1.? ???: Any other updates.
V2.0 SoA and ToB Release.
Future Planned Mods:
Helga, Cleric of Haela Brightaxe: TBD

Recorder, Gnome Lorekeeper (Bard Kit): TBD

Thank you
I just want to add a small section of thanks. Emily, Kale, and Vienxay originally were all one mod, hence why their releases are all so close (Perhaps too close!), but I quickly learned that it was very difficult to include three custom NPCs who bantered with eachother in the same mod. There was a lot of struggle and learning, and I really want to thank the following for inspiring or guiding:

Beamdog: For Enhancing this game. This wouldn't exist if BG1 was never enhanced.

Olga Silaeva (Kulyok): Your Branwen NPC Mod really made learning to mod possible. I've read several guides, but none was as detailed with comments for every step of the mod progression as yours. You'll probably never read this, but thank you!

LavaDelVortel: Your Petsy Mod was actually what started getting me to look at making mods in the first place. That a planned NPC of mine is a bard is no accident, I'm quite appreciative for the creative inspiration it gave me.

AionZ: Your Aura and Sirene mod also inspired me to start modding. It contains a lot of really advanced work, technique, and manipulation that is really inspiring to go through (Particularly Aura's). The content in Emily contains a couple of nods to Sirene for this reason.

Bioware: NWN helped provide the picture and soundset assets, so also, thank you.

The community: The feedback and support in general has been really kind. My only regret is starting modding so late, delaying the meeting of many wonderful people. There's a lot of wonderful mod authors with great content that I can't recommend enough for both BG:EE and BG:EE 2, and I hope when I'm done with my own work I can properly invest time in exploring them. They really help make you want to replay the series again and again.

Change Log
3/24/2019: v1.1:
BG:EE:

Expanded Final talk, redid 5th talk.
Added several interjections with story important NPCs.
Added crossmod for unreleased mod Recorder
Fixed level one bug that was granting an illegal level up for Shadowdancer.
Fixed spell slot issue, Vienxay should now follow mage/thief guidelines with spell slots and not be treated as a special class.
Fixed Nashkel mispelling.
Fixed other minor text issues.
Adjusted final boss battle.
Removed Instant Death for Apprentice Lacius, he is now a short battle like the rest of the apprentice.
SoD:
Vienxay now spawns in the cell of the Flaming Fist. It is not required to talk to her here to get her to come along, she will join under the terms of release for criminals in return for service to the Dragonspear expedition.
Added interjections and content spanning through chapter 7.
Some scripts are in place already for future chapters to allow faster updates.

Added a new spell: Shadowbolt:
Shadowbolt
(Illusion)
Level: 4
Range: 40
Duration: Instant
Casting Time: 2
Area of Effect: 1 Creature
Creature
Saving Throw: Spell for Half
This Shadow Weave spell is similar to magic missile. Shadowbolt creates up to 11 cold, airy missiles, which dart from the wizard to the intended target.
Each missile does 1d6+1 magic cold damage. At 7th level this is seven missiles, at eigth this is eight, ninth this is nine, tenth this is ten, up to eleven at level eleven.
While potentially more powerful, unlike magic missile, each bolt can be saved against for half damage, has less range, and is ineffective against cold immune creatures.

v1.0: Initial Released Version of Vienxay NPC.

[MOD] Bubb's Auto Looting

$
0
0

Overview:

This mod seeks to make looting easier. Features include filtering automatic-looting by critical item, weapon enchantment level, gold, price, and price per weight. For the moment auto-looting only pertains to on-ground items. The main goal of this mod is to reduce the amount of items the player misses and leaves on the ground, especially small piles of gold. Due to limitations of the engine, automatically picked up items can only be transferred to the currently selected leader. This mod only supports BG2EE at the moment, though if there is demand I will attempt to port it. If anyone has any suggestions for additional filters, I would be happy to see about implementing them.

Screenshots:

Use:

In the bottom left-hand corner of the world screen you will see a new button. This button opens up the Auto Loot options menu. In this menu you can turn on and off all the different filters, as well as tweak several filter's values to greater suit your looting needs. By default auto looting is off.

Installation:

Download the zip file attached to this post, and copy the contents into your BG2EE's base folder. Run the setup-bubb_auto_loot.exe, and you are good to go!

Xan and his Moonblade

Just as the title says.

Would it be best to keep Xan and his moonblade rather than keeping Dynaheir and Minsc? I know that Edward is a great character but I already ditched him. I've read some of the old(old old old) forum post on this, I would like to know new insights about it. I used to play BG on PC before way back 2003 and I was able to give console commands and enjoyed the game with a lot of Minsc which was really funny as a kid. Although, right now, I want to experience the game more and trying to mix the characters. If I'll get Xan, I'll most likely get Rasaad, and I don't even know if my party would be good or not although I enjoy Rasaad more than Minsc. It's nice to have some Ninja monk with really really long dialogues in the team than having Minsc talking to boo which is kind of cute too!

I have a full party With Imoen, Jaheira, Khalid, Minsc and Dynaheir. I actually left Kivan at Nashkel town since I was running out of time with him. I just realized that I can't have all the characters that I want. I basically keep Khalid and Jaheira for the story purposes that they were supposed to do in the story.

Your Favorite Religious Jokes! (please read rules)

There's been a lot of serious theological discussion on these forums lately, so I think we should have a more lighthearted religion thread! This thread will be for posting jokes related to your religion. Do you identify as theist or agnostic? We will count those too! All beliefs are welcome here with a few ground rules. 1. Post jokes only about your own religion. Memes are also welcome. We want to keep this thread in good faith (hehe) so no targeting other people. Most people on this forum wouldn't do so to intentionally harm anyway, this is just to avoid arguments due to miscommunication or misread intent. 2. This is not a debate thread. Jokes and joke discussion only please. 3. Not everyone can know the specifics of your belief system, so explaining the joke for us heathens in spoiler tags is appreciated. 4. Have fun! Edited to fix the title.

Sanctum of the Archmage: Enhanced Edition

$

I've been working in recent weeks on developing an EE compatible edition of the Sanctum of the Archmage modules, which is mostly done now. I should be able to release SotA:EE Edition v1.0 after another playtesting run, probably in a few weeks at most. I took advantage of the opportunity to add a couple of new features that I had cut for the remake that I released in September. Aside from minor typo fixes and the like, I also did a complete re-write to both the XP and the crafting systems. Players should now be able to advance to level 11 by the end of Chapter 2, and the penalties for using companions and summons have been flattened. Players should also be able to craft many more (and better) items from both mundane and magical materials alike. I'm not planning to do much more to revise Chapter 1 and 2 for EE, though. The reason is that I've decided that any new modding efforts on my part are probably better devoted to resuming development of Chapter 3, which I suspended several years ago to begin writing my Sanctum of the Archmage novels. I've opened up the third module again in the EE editor, cleaned it up, and finally finished the extensive scripting needed for the elaborate "flying system" that it will feature. Finishing Sanctum 3 will likely take a while, given my other commitments (writing, work and life in general). But all of it will be done in and for EE. And I'll be looking to take advantage of every opportunity I can to include new content and features made possible by the extended edition.

Mods and items for Android I cannot do for myself please help

$

I have found several things that I like want or could use but everything involves editing the Lua file or is in a Modpack or requires a computer to install. I do not know how to take only certain mods that I would like out of a Modpack and some of the features I would like to add 2 Lua files or UI menu file and I am not skilled enough to do the editing.

I am hoping to find someone who can do the editing and find the mods for me.
I do not have a computer and I'm playing on an Android phone so it has to be mods that can go into my override folder or be a modification to a Lua or text file

What I'm looking for it has follows and I will add links has I am able to

1 a mod that removes restrictions on what armor and weapons classes can use and removes the restrictions on spells and Thief skills when wearing armor
2 Auto roll on character generation
3 stealing multiple items from someone
4 buttons in the top left corner choosing responses some mod pack I can't remember which had that so you didn't have to tap the small red text to choose an option
5 all items in the inventory including weapons and armor become stackable
6 starting the game with a bottomless bag of holding
7 easier user interface we're going between the main bar on the bottom and the user skills on the bottom after pressing about it
8 faster character movement
9 some way to have buttons skills and other items labeled without having to hover or press on them
10 larger bars on the bottom for skills and buttons so buttons can be a little bigger so less pressing of the wrong button
11 I have a menu file that's supposedly let you use the console however no command I put in works although the console shows up if there is a way to make the file work it would be appreciated
12 unlock hidden options
13 select multiple opponents skills and spells
14 some way to have a portable shop with unlimited items for restocking ammo and selling items
15 more portraits for characters
16 a button that will show player coordinates and the coordinates of the next place that is tapped on
17 a way to automatically finish all quests in candlekeep at the prologue and gather all gold and items from the quests without leaving candlekeep so you can still get items at the shop before leaving

I am aware some of these things have already been done with mods and edits before, however all of said modifications have either been part of a mod pack or an edit to files beyond my skill to edit how to retrieve mods from a Modpack where requires a computer which I do not have.

I will now include links to what I can find that relates to this topic such as pieces needed to edit the menu or Lua file that I can't get to work

Link for multiple items feeling

Game Crashing when go Underground or in Basements

$

Not sure if this is the correct spot for this. I have BG2EE installed and some of the safe/compatible mods from the sticky list. No others. I'm a middle aged non tech savvy Baldur Gate player, but this is the first time in twenty years of playing I've had a problem or a crash. Maybe I've just been lucky.

Every time I go into certain underground areas or wilderness areas the game crashes: (somewhat vague since don't know if spoilers allowed here) sewers in the temple district, the hills, areas between slavers and "gladiator area" map, underdark (either going the long way or the short way). I've had no problems going to De'Arnise hold, any of the Asylum areas, bridge district, or graveyard.

Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Zaghoul's No-Reload Asylum."75 Non-Edited Roll/ No Resurrections/Random HP/ Challenge" runs:

I do quite a few runs, all are no-re-load ,and usually just describe a lil of them on my wall, but as that gradually disappears I thought of making a lil spot in this section to re-read some of my runs fighting the dreaded virus Restartitis. Missed a few I completed but this is part of the last I made through BG with without loosing interest. I've been to BG2 many a time in the past, and several through SoD, but being relatively new to mods (just several months), I keep trying new things just in BG, my favorite of all. The first started as regular rolls, 98-100+, resurrection, the works. After the first few mentioned here I switched to the challenge runs as listed in the title of the thread. My new rules: You must use a non-edited roll of 75 - You can re-roll as many times as you like - You may not resurrect any party members - Core rules - No reloading - Random HP's - Random Chances To Learn Spells - Weather and Gore On I just wanted a place to include the older 'regular' ones for reference. One might notice I have a particular like for Lovecraftian themes in my characters often. My favorite author and mythos so hard not to work them in every now and again. Another noticeable thing will often be non standard humanoid races, and their different views on people and places The last that just completed BG.
Velnarin-Gypsy Bard
"And Ao appeared during the Time of Troubles (ToT), white beard, wearing a black robe doted with many moons" Beyond the realms of time and space is another, some say even having a hand in the creation of the universe (or at least a pseudopod). "That last amorphous blight of nethermost confusion which blasphemes and bubbles at the centre of all infinity-the boundless daemon sultan Azathoth, whose name no lips dare speak aloud, and who gnaws hungrily in inconceivable, unlighted chambers beyond time amidst the muffled, maddening beating of vile drumsand the thin monotonous whine of accursed flutes" HP Lovecraft. He is attended by his servitors, flautists that announce his appearance. Those that worship Azathoth worship insanity and chaos. Nyarlathotep, the Crawing Chaos, is his servant, or is it the lesser being Nyarlathotep that pulls the strings for himself? Another may come, born of a god from the ToT, to overtake Nyarlathotep, loyal to Azathoth alone, a flautist supreme...

Finally finished BG series

I did it. Beat the final battle in ToB, and finished the whole BG series. Took me about 2 RL months to do. Whew. But well worth it, I really enjoyed the characters and dialogue, plus the lore and background. I don't think I've played such an engaging RPG in a long while.

The final battle was both hard and silly easy. The hard part was dealing with the Big Bad and her summoned minions swarming my party. Then I realized I could plop Spike Traps on her spawn point. Boom, final "final" battle done instantly after her speech. Don't think I remember any Final Boss / Big Bad being defeated instantly or no effort like that. Closest would be Cloud instant-Omnislash on Sephiroth in the ending battle in Final Fantasy 7, or Yu Yevon in Final Fantasy 10, or Luther (final boss) and the bonus bosses in Star Ocean 3 if geared properly, they'd do 0 damage to you with all forms of attack.

It even makes RP sense to pull the Spike Traps on the Big Bad. She spawns in the exact same spot 4 times. A thief would go "Hmm, she pops there again after the 2nd or 3rd time. Lets plop traps right there, just in case!"

I'd have liked a bit more closure to ToB though. Perhaps a short epilogue chapter where you meet and chat up with people in the Mortal-ending, or see your new Godly home in the God-ending.

A couple plot holes, though. Seems like the Big Bad and the Solar forgot that there's still other Bhaalspawn out there. Imoen and that "scared then explode-teleport away" one. And I'm not sure about Bhaal himself. Does one Bhaalspawn have to live with all others dead for Bhaal to resurrect, or do all the Bhaalspawn have to die for Bhaal to resurrect?

And what if cast Imprison on a Bhaalspawn with no other witnesses? Then that Bhaalspawn would be hidden away forever, Meaning Bhaal wouldn't be resurrected either way?

Will share more thoughts later.

Pathfinder:Kingmaker Minimal and No Reload Thread (spoilers, obviously)

$
0
0
Inspired by @JuliusBorisov 's last two threads for D:OS and PoE, I'm inspired to make this one.

The "rules" here are very simple: Just state whether you're attempting a minimal or no reload, tell what difficulty you're playing on, and whether you have any mods. If you fail a no reload, feel free to continue it as a minimal reload. As a minimal reload, keep a counter at the bottom of how many times you've reloaded, and why. I'd suggest that any more than 5-10 reloads is not a minimal reload. Also, there should never be any save scumming to get a better result on any dice rolls. Only a total party wipe or a main character death should be cause for a reload.

Here's my first entry, which is also my first time playing Pathfinder:Kingmaker:
bnopiqo1zne2.jpgy40gfjmhufzu.jpg

Here is my journal, which hopefully gives some idea how far I've gotten on this first run:
w6m5azy179jc.jpg

One of the things I've noticed, after having just clawed my way painstakingly to level three, is that this dungeon I've wound up in, is awfully reminiscent of the Nashkel Mines (one of the first long dungeons in the game, kobolds everywhere). I don't see how they could have not been thinking of BG1 and the Nashkel Mines when they created this.
r7pjdek1p3y5.jpg

This game seems to be heavily influenced by all of Baldur's Gate, Pillars of Eternity, and Dragon Age: Origins. I give it kudos for that.

I have had one reload so far. I encountered a planned story event where my main character was so badly debuffed he would not be able to ever rest again until the event quest was completed. I was told to search near a river. The first place near that river I went to had a cave where I thought I might find my solution, but it was filled with wererats, including one throwing firebombs, who turned out to be way above my ability to fight. The game does not allow retreat from a dungeon (cave). So, that was a party wipe. I still haven't tested whether it is possible to retreat from an encounter outdoors.

The "attack of opportunity" mechanic, combined with relative movement speeds, leads me to believe that it is impossible to disengage from any fight once it has been triggered. That is like a lot of other games, including PoE, D:OS, and even MMX. I think a lot of contemporary game developers creating old school games are *trying* to force you to reload frequently.

How much I continue posting is partially dependent on how much interest this thread generates, and how many reloads I have to do while learning. We'll see how it goes. But I wanted to try this.

BTW: Steam says I have 19 hours invested so far in this first run.

EDIT: I forgot to say, I'm doing my first run on Normal difficulty.

EDIT: I am going to keep editing this initial post to help keep my reload counter, so that I can easily copy-paste it into future entries with no fuss.

LAG in NWN:EE

I just bought the game on GOG and when in combat casting spells...so much LAG...its lame. I have windows 8.1 and updated my drivers. Turned down the visuals...still lag...my Platinum NWN is waaay better. Is there a patch for this? I love the cleaner graphics...but this lag issue is very bad in combat. Newbie here...sorry if this is posted already somewhere...so much on this forum hard to see a similar post on LAG issues here.
