Sarevok57's Mega Icewind Dale Mod is finally here and it's a big one

$

Come one come all, I have finally finished this massive mod that I have made for IWD/HOW, I believe it took me over 320 hours to complete in a 3 week period or so but anyways, on to the good stuff, unless you just want to skip all of what this has to offer if you like surprises, so just go straight to the bottom for install details

PS: I will always keep the most up to date mod for download at the bottom of this page for convenience of new comers

First big improvement: Difficulty setting

the difficulty setting now greatly impacts how the game is played, on a lower setting enemies will use less spells and abilities, on higher settings more monsters/ more powerful monsters will spawn, and enemies will use better spells and abilities, to learn more, once you install the mod, check out what the difficulty slider has to say about the difficulty settings

Next: Sound sets have been restored to EVERYBODY

what this means is that EVERY SINGLE NPC in the game has a sound set now ( although I forgot to do the summons from spells, but to be honest they don't really need it anyway) this took a mammoth amount of time and effort to do and the reason why I did it, was to make the game feel more alive, and it actually does help a bit, instead of the dead cold silence everyone had before

Next: More music tracks

speaking about sound sets, I've noticed that IWD can be quite silent, especially when it comes to combat music, so I've added a lot of combat music to the game ( in fact everywhere that can have combat music has been added) I didn't replace any of the original IWD tracks though, so those are still there, to me this music track addition really helps bring the game to life a little better I think

Next: Weapon Proficiencies

weapon proficiencies have had a huge over haul, as in some classes can go as high as 7 points in one weapon, so make sure to double check the maximum proficiency points your class is allowed to have in weapons and weapon styles, even weapon styles can go as high as 5 points now as well, so be aware and check out the new proficiency point system for weapons and weapon styles( also note, if you are at 5 proficiency points and you see that it looks like it's maxed out - because of space limitations- try me, if your class allows it, you can keep pointing the points on, it just won't show up on the level up screen, but it will on the record page)

Next: A whole bunch of new items

I have added a whole bunch of new items to the game, so can be found, some can be bought, I don't recall how many I added, probably close to 50+ I'm thinking, I also tried to make it so they weren't to over powered of an addition, and also there is one secret item that I have added, and there is only one way to get it, so happy lurking

Next: Stores and Temples have been upgraded

As the title says, A LOT of the stores have been upgraded ( and by a lot I mean all of them) and quite a few of the temples have been upgraded as well so anytime you go to a store or a temple, check out and see what new goodies they have, and speaking about stores, I have made it so items are more expensive and you get less money for selling items so then you don't sit on a moon size chunk of gold the time you get to the end of the game, I've actually found it to be quite effective, plus no one will buy wands ever ( I couldn't make it so if you sold a wand and bought it back, to make it so it only gives a small amount of charges, its always 50 or 100) I did this to help calm down the OPness of wands, so what you get is what you get, so be wary

Next: Experience Points have been altered

you are going to see a familiar experience point allocation if you played bg2, I have changed a lot of the experience to give quest xp to each character instead of just getting that huge wad in one go, again I found this to be a more effective way of doing experience, plus it also helps give you solo'ers a much bigger challenge, also your difficulty setting will sometimes affect your experience from quests as well, the higher the setting, the more you will get, even a few boss enemies' experience point gain are based on the difficulty setting as well

Next: Bonus Experience for traps/locks/ and scrolls

I have added this into IWD since it's already in the bg games, although its not to huge, as scrolls will give level x 50 XP, and you will see what traps and locks will give, and as per usual the higher level your thief is, the more XP from traps and locks

Next: Max Level

I have increased max level to 40, and all it really does is give a little bit of HP gain, a tiny bit of a spell gain, and maybe perhaps a small saving throw gain, I really did it for those people who really want the full experience of HoF mode on insane and not get capped out to quick, with me, I did a full run on insane with the XP boost off, and I think I hit around a little under 3.5 million the time I got to the last boss in HOW, so having the level cap at 40, does not change gameplay all that much for those that are worried

Next: Superior Strength

I have altered superior strength scores ( 18/01-18/99) in which now for every point you have in the 18/xx will give you an extra 2lbs of weight allowance, so a score of 18/20 STR will now allow you to carry 240 lbs, while a score of 18/70 will allow you to carry 340 lbs, this makes it so now matte what your superior strength is, it will affect your weight allowance based on your 18/xx, and 400 is still 18/00

Next: I have changed some spells

there is a small list of spells that I have changed, nothing big, just to add a little big more flavor to them ( plus cloak of fear was bugged and did nothing so I had to fix that HA) so here is the list of spells that have been changed, check out their new spell descriptions in the game:
Chromatic Orb
Defensive Harmony
Flesh to Stone
Cloak of Fear
Flamestrike
Bless

Now it's time for the big ol' .2da list, so here is the rest of the changes I have made according to the .2da files:

Half-Orcs: get a -2 penalty to charisma as well ( since 19 str/con is too good to only get -2 int)

Alignments: A lot of classes have had their alignments revamped ( so no lawful berserkers or barbarians sort of thing) plus druid now can be neutral evil or neutral good, so make sure to check for your alignment choices

Character Sounds: If you have my jon irenicus soundset ( which is on this forum somewhere) you can use it with this mod and his sounds will have subtitles if you like that sort of thing

Classes: some classes have become more available to more races ( any type of elf can now be a druid, didn't know if that was implemented before) and now gnomes can be bards ( except for blades, since blade is more of a warrior subtype than a musician subtype) plus halflings can be cleric/thieves as well, so make sure to check it out

Racial Enemies: there has been some additions to the racial enemies, so make sure to check it out, but also a warning; some of the harder enemy racial enemies might not appear on higher difficulties, so just keep that in mind depending on which difficulty you play on

Hit Points: I have altered how HP work a little bit, now every class' hp will get a roll up to level 10 ( although thief and mages are still the only one who get a HP bonus at level 10, I cant figure out how to make the rest of the classes do it) plus barbarians and dwarven defenders get 4 HP per level pass 10 instead of 3

Intelligence: I have affected intelligence a little bit for when it comes to spell learning and how many spells you can have per level the info can be find in this table:

LEARN_SPELL______MAX_SPELL_LEVEL______MAX_SPELLS_PER_LEVEL

9___ 35___ 4___ 6
10___ 40___ 5___ 7
11___ 45___ 5___ 7
12___ 50___ 6___ 8
13___ 55___ 6___ 9
14___ 60___ 7___ 10
15___ 65___ 7___ 12
16___ 70___ 8___ 14
17___ 75___ 8___ 16
18___ 85___ 9___ 18
19___ 90___ 9___ 20
20___ 95___ 9___ 25
21___ 96___ 9___ 30
22___ 97___ 9___ 35
23___ 98___ 9___ 40
24___ 99___ 9___ 45
25___ 100___ 9___ 50

Bonus Priest Spells: this table has been altered a bit as well, I have made it a little bit more spread, so its a little easier to get bonus level 6 and 7 spells, and I believe at max wisdom you only get +3 bonus spells per level instead of 4, so its only a little different, and not too much of a game changer, some spell levels you might have a spell less than you should, but others you might have a spell more

Lore: I have altered lore tables a little bit, everyone is the same as before except that clerics now get 2 lore points per level now instead of 1 ( I thought it made sense since a lot of temples can identify, so you would think that clerics would be quite knowledgeable as well

Racial To Hit Bonus: Dwarves now get a +1 bonus to hit with axes ( since dwarves get a bonus with the waraxe in 3.5)

Reputation: it is now possible to hit 20 reputation, there is 2 ways of doing it: doing heroic deeds, or spending some serious coinage at a temple, having that higher REP has the same effect that it had in bg, if you are curious on what the new donate table is here it is:

1 5000
2 4500
3 4000
4 3500
5 3000
6 2500
7 2000
8 1500
9 1000
10 750
11 500
12 1000
13 2500
14 5000
15 7500
16 10000
17 15000
18 25000
19 50000
20 n/a
That is how much money you need at that score to raise it to the next point

Random Treasure: the random treasure tables have been altered quite a bit, where only useful items will be obtained, and plus enemies will now be using those random items instead of them just chillin in a crate or box or whatever, plus some of the better ones will only be obtainable on higher difficulties so player be aware of that as well

Racial Saving Throw Bonus: I have altered this table just a little bit, it still basically works the same as before except now you don't get the +5 bonus unless your CON is 20 instead of 18, and plus you need at least 12 CON before you even get a bonus period

Pick Pocketing: some pick pocketing tables have been changed ( like the score you need to obtain certain items; boots, belts etc.) plus there are a lot more pick pocketable targets in the game as well, so if ya got a good pick pocket score, go nuts and find some goodies...

so yeah, that's all I can think of at the moment, there could easily be more added bonuses and upgrades that I can't think of at the moment ( since I revamped the ENTIRE game) so yeah, now for the install:

INSTALLING THE MOD

Step 1:

unzip the mod folder and there is going to be 2 files in there: a dialog file, and the override folder filed with all the goodies

Step 2:

-first, back up your dialogue talk file, it will be in your IWD directory, if you are using steam, it will look something like this:
-Disk C/Steam/SteamApps/Common/Icewind Dale Enhanced Edition of if you got it from beamdog it might look like this:
-Disk C/BeamDog/Games/007xx ( I don't have IWD from beamdog's launcher, but I know it's not 00766, or 00783)
-so where ever your directory is, you want to go there and go to the "lang" file and go to the "en_US" file and you will see the dialogue talk file there
-what you will want to do is copy paste that somewhere safe because that is your original and in case something messes up with this mod, you can always fall back to the original, so make a copy of that one

Step 3:

after you have made your original copy of your dialogue talk file, replace the one that is in your "en_US" folder with one from the mod, this mod add over 1200 string references, so you will definitely need this updated dialogue talk file or else there is going to be a lot of missing strings

Step 4:

now you need to go into the directory where your "lang" folder was ( it also has "data", "movies", "scripts" ect..) this is where you want to put the mod override folder, if you already have one in there, then take all 2377 items from the mod override folder and put them into your existing folder

Warning:

I had no prior mods installed before I made this mega mod, so if you have other mods, you will probably have to install them after this one, since this mod basically replaces everything, and be careful with mods that effect the dialogue talk file, I used the strings directly after the last one ( which I think was around 40830) so if your mods use dialogue strings from 40830-42200 or so, you will see some odd strings pop in the odd place

So, that is the jist of what this mod does, it certainly does add quite a bit of flavor to the game, and please, by all means, if you find bugs, tell me so then I can fix them as soon as possible, I did quite the extensive test on insane difficulty, and based on how my AI's are set up, if insane didn't work, then the rest wouldn't but you never know, so have fun, and tell me your thoughts and feelings, and ask questions if ya got 'em :)

Guess Facts about the Next Poster

Hello everyone,

Based on @CoryNewb 's "Guess the Next Poster" I thought it'd be fun to extend his idea.

So instead of guessing the next poster you guess facts about them.

Example:
"The next poster likes tomatoes."

Next Post:
"True, I really like them. The next poster's most favorite villain in the BG Saga is Irenicus."

Next Post:
"False, it's Sarevok. The next poster lives in Germany."

And so on. The italic part is optional.
When you answer with "False" you may correct the statement but you don't have to.
In any case you may elaborate on your answer.

I hope that this is a nice and fun way to get to know each other better a bit.

Feedback about SoD by player with some experience of BG series

Despite my opinion about graphic outlook of this forum (I think it is sux as hell, same as the many other "white-on-black" eyeharming forum styles, and the worst thing - that you cannot change the single default theme in your frigging account menu :( , in addition this forums using HTML that I have don't know how to use, BBC-stuff is more cool :( ), I have decided to left a feedback about the game that I have bought - Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition +DLC "Siege of Dragon Spear", after a ~40 minutes of playing. I have a lot of experience of gaming in BG series, on the higher difficulty possible.

So my opinion about the game, for now.
  • Game menu interface: Impressive! (for an exception about emblem - imho the old skool was better)
  • Video shortcuts: Good! (well, if you want some critics - too much heroic and disney like, comparing to the old one "Armored figure on the roof", but still very good)
  • User Graphical Interface: Impressive! (of course I have my cosmetic changes, to switch to old-skool black-on-white style, still very impressive)
  • Game atmosphere: Impressive! (the design of the start location is super, even those chasm that smoking and the funny skeleton from the sarcophagus is ice. I am impressed indeed - much more better than the start location in BG2, despite of those poor flaming fists :P )
  • Gameplay: OK! (the first fight - the ambush on the small bridge was nice and enjoyable, like an old-school in BG1, of course on LoB + SCS (don't changin default SoD AI))
  • The story: (I have no straight opinion yet, but I don't like most of story of BG2, so I think SoD story will sux too :P )
  • Voices: OK! (imho - even better than in previous BG series.)
  • Dialogues: OK! (the NPC replicas is fine, and don't distracting from the game atmosphere)
Perhaps I will add something along with ma party way trough the game story-line.

Conclusions for now: Wow-effect, like a hollywood blockbuster.

Some graphical artifacts, that I think, migrated from the previous series:

image

The light shade of the fireball over the chasm, is looks weird.

image

The thunderbolt must be above the laying on the ground armors, but not below.

What a problem with reviews of Siege of Dragonspear gog/steam?

Clicking on SoD, on gog.com, and the first review that I see... is distracting me.

Extremely disappointed

Patch 2.0/Dragonspear made Baldurs Gate EE a worse game for a number of reasons.
-random crashes
-mods aren't working properly any longer
-questionable graphic update (they managed to make a 16 year old game look WORSE than on release) I know, these are optional, but when i first started the game after the update i just couldn't believe it how ugly it looked. Funnily enough, the preview screenshots here and on steam don't show the ugly new sprites.
-questionable difficulty changes. Why the f*** does the game lower the difficulty after a few reloads by itself, without asking. I realized this awesome "feature" when i reached the so called "Story mode" which sets all stats to 25 and adds a ton of immunity. Basically Godmode. Obviously i thought it was a bug and tried to reload my game again. Well, i figured it out eventually. What a terrible feature.
-Voice acting The voice acting in the addon breaks the feel of the original game. I know, many people hate to read and prefer voiced dialogues. But Baldurs Gate has its own style and if suddenly whole dialogues are voiced it just feels out of place and you know immediately that it doesn't belongs to the game. It just feels wrong. They could have saved the money for the (mediocre actually) voice acting and spend it on fixing bugs.
-Multiplayer Its working barely at best.
So far this addon has been a huge disappointment. The worst thing is: Even if i refund it, the terrible patch 2.0 will stay. I guess i will let the EE games rest and play the original games with mods for a while. Maybe Beamdog gets their shit together and fixes the issues and i can enjoy playing EE. Hopefully this time it won't take them whole year.
PS (kinda unrelated on GoG): Steam Achievments are buggy as hell too. Some won't unlock. Others do unlock for the wrong quest... its a mess.

the third

An unnecessary add-on that no-one wanted

Siege of Dragonspear is beyond mediocre; it's plain bad.

Let me address the good elements of the game: they got back almost all of the original voice actors for the companions, including having a large part for David Warner, who voiced Irenicus. David Warner actually voices a player voice set. That's the sum of the good elements of this expansion.
This expansion what completely unnecessary. The expansion's level cap is one higher than BG:EE's and you lose all of your money and equipment as soon as you start BG2, so the only concievable reason you are playing this expansion is for the story. Unfortunately, the story is poorly written and delivered. It has little sense of scale, and feels as if it is trying to one-up Throne of Bhaal in order to be "epic". The story is mostly told in little "scenes" told on cut up maps from Baldur's Gate. Often you are given a map the size of a single screen, with nothing to explore and no possible way to miss the plot. The experience spoon feeds you the content because it doesn't trust you to consume it in the proper way, which is a message reinforced by its mechanics. I was playing through as a murderous blackguard and had a habit of answering insolence by making a mountain of skulls from the nearby. Except, often the game would just teleport in a guard-wizard who casts an impossibly high level spell and kills me instantly. I wasn't playing the game the way they wanted, so they decided to take it away until I did it the way they wanted. This is the spirit of Dragonspear. It is a rotten, little attempt to cash in on a legacy of more talented people than themselves.
One hears often about an attempt to hammer in a SJW agenda, but that's not why this game doesn't respect BG. If a minor npc who is transgendered offends you and you were around to play the original BG in its day, then its far time to grow up. Dragonspear is a travesty to the BG tradition because it doesn't respect the spirit of those games it steals from.

and the fifth review on the main page.

An abomination of an expansion

Some people say this game hasn't aged well, but I play a lot of retro games, so visuals usually aren't terribly important to me. But this "expansion" is an abomination. The UI is terrible. They tried to fix things that weren't broken and ended up making them worse. Multiplayer doesn't work, and on top of it all there is a good deal of ham-fisted social justice garbage thrown in, and you can't even have any kind of negative dialogue to respond to it. DO NOT BUY.

I am frustrated of that ridiculous reviews... what the peoples want, I do not know, well I can try to predict.

I have googled few time this social justice, and I have found "civil rights" and stuff - which is standard norm of the modern society, and obviously those guys who wrote that anti-civilrights-social-justice stuff is mostly alive, and in health condition because of existing this social norms and laws. So the very popular culture of now, is that peoples want to kill an innocents in the Video-games, to torture, to murder, become a tyrant of somekind.. Very predictable branch of the popular culture, indeed :(

Cmon guys, SoD is just want do you expect when think about RPG of that kind - you gathering your party, entering dungeon, and then a horrible-horrible skeleton attacking your party, and you releasing a fireball... You have a good picture (if this is even possible with the game engine that is looks like some ancient artifact... !), you have a good gameplay (this D&D adaptation in PC is OK!), you have OK! story (I don't liked stories in BG-series, so I hope in SOD it will be better.), you have a good sound, dialogues, a fine atmosphere, etc... What do you need else? Just relax and play, and obtain your narcotic pleasure if you are gamer. Old skool RPG the SOD is. Nothin else, and nothin more. Perhaps if the SoD may released before BG2, for an example, the guys start shouting that BG2 sux and SoD was a mega-classic, or something like that.
I think almost the all of those reviews is the result of the campaing of the "pop-culture-warriors" nothin more, and this is a far from reality what a SoD is really is. Perhaps I should make normal reviews on that resources, after I will play in SoD for some longer time.

P.S. I am hardcore PC-RPG player, that have lot of experience with BG series, and started gaming in SoD.
Please, avoid the spoilers in your answers, if you can.

[Mod] Crash after Slayer Dream

$
0
0
Hi, my game seems to crash after the slayer dream but I have not installed any mods modifying either the dream or the powers as shown in the weidu log attached, I have tried to kick all my party members before sleeping, kill them, thrown out the Djinni companion flask, all to no success.

I tried to change the variable "HADSLAYERDREAM" to 1 and the game advanced without the dream but i'd rather avoid this solution in case it ruins most mods.

I tried to change only the "GIVEPOWERSLAYER" to 2 but it didn't fix it this time.

Got any ideas? I attached the crash.dmp file as well.

Give me a class

So after having various discussions in other threads and getting different points of views, I have decided to leave it to the community (as another user did) to choose my class for me. I will attempt to solo the game (though it is not a no-reload challenge, it is just something I want to do in my free time for fun).

I have compiled a shortlist of classes that I have never really played much of before, OR classes that are traditionally considered a challenge to solo with.

Feel free to leave any additional comments if you like. Thanks for your help!

any option to kill this fog ?

Console Commands for Fast Quest Progression

$

*****Spoiler Alert*****
Tired of searching 90 different threads for solutions to some common bugs and console commands to speed up NPC quests, so for your pleasure here's my current list all in 1 place:

BG2 EE SoA Console commands for fast quest progression:

Multiple Strongholds Mod causing Unseeing Eye not to be offered. Short version is after you listen to Gaal's speech in the temple district a priest is supposed to approach you and ask you to come to their temple, once inside they give you the Unseeing Eye (beholder) quest. Multiple Strongholds Mod seems to prevent you getting the priest to automatically spawn, so you need to console the correct one based on your alignment.

Evil - C:CreateCreature("BHNALLA")
Neutral - C:CreateCreature("bhoisig")
Good - C:CreateCreature("bharval")

Follow created Priest to relevant Temple for quest to be offered.

Anomen Dead Sister Quest Messenger:

C:SetGlobal("SpawnTerl","Global",1) Should make him spawn, i had some glitches with using C:CreateCreature("Terl") Gave quest but game started to lag out as if the party was constantly trying to go back to speak to him, so advise 1st command.

Once the sister issue has been resolved, trigger Anomens Judgement with
C:CreateCreature("kayl1") he'll be asked to attend the temple and either be Knighted or enraged depending on the resolution.

Jaheira Quests:

Enter the downstairs part of the Sea's Bounty Tavern in Docks District and Baron Ployer will curse her, should not need any console commands to speed this up, but worth noting that the Disease she is inflicted with which usually requires 3x 8 Hr rests to cure after the quest is finished, but can be Bypassed by using the Harpers Hold quest. She will leave the party after Dermin appears for the 2nd time and you rest outside, the part where you get the note, when you rescue her from the Harpers compound she rejoins w/o the disease. This is merely a suggestion to save you wasting a "game day" on resting when you have to rest once for her to leave and get the note anyway as part of the Harpers Hold quest chain.

Harpers Hold console commands:

Need to be outside, not in the city for the following to work, usually do it in D'Arnise Keep area since it's closest.

C:SetGlobal("DerminAppear","GLOBAL",1) Should work every time you need him to turn up, assuming previous steps completed.

C:SetGlobal("RevianeAppear","GLOBAL",1)

C:SetGlobal("TerminselAppear","GLOBAL",1) to avoid him taking forever to turn up for the final step. Be warned your Reputation will determine whether she gets the Harper Pin + XP reward, rep can be a lot lower if you are romancing, i believe 10+ for Romance, 16+ otherwise.

Edwin Quests:

C:SetGlobal("EdwinScroll","GLOBAL",1) to trigger both steps of the scroll decyphering. 1st for Xp then 2nd time for him to become Edwina.

C:SetGlobal("DegardanSpawn","GLOBAL",1) Again repeat twice, 1st time he appears do not betray Edwin, 2nd time he turns Edwin back who then attacks him.

Jan Quest:

C:CreateCreature("beeloo") Should be all you need to start the quest.

Mazzy Quest:

This can be a bit glitchy, perhaps depending on whether you have her in the party when you kill the Shade Lord or come back after to free her. Apparently Danno will not show up in some areas, i usually go to Trademeet or Imnesvale.

C:SetGlobal("DannoBeginsPalaPlot","GLOBAL",1)
C:SetGlobal("Pala","GLOBAL",0)
C:SetGlobal("SpawnDanno","GLOBAL",0)
C:SetGlobal("SpawnDannoTimer","GLOBAL",1)
After this you *may* need to spawn danno C:CreateCreature("Danno") if he doesn't appear automatically.

Nalia Quest:

C:CreateCreature("naliames") to get funeral request
C:CreateCreature("Isaea") to get her abducted

Dorn Quest:

C:SetGlobal("OHD_terpfendlg","GLOBAL",2) Should get him to start the quest to find the Helm camp after you have ruined the wedding for the 1st part of his quest.

Hexxat Quest:

Damn i hate this chicks quest, so many bugs and long waits...

After you free her and she rejoins at the Copper Coronet, Cabrina is *supposed* to show up at night, in Athkatla (possibly not the Graveyard district)

C:CreateCreature("ohhcabri") will spawn her, but she doesn't always interact if you use that.
C:SetGlobal("ohh_cabrinatimer","GLOBAL",1) may work if the above line doesn't.
C:SetGlobal("Ohh_Cabrina","GLOBAL",1) may be needed before you spawn her.

After completing the Leopards Claw Quest she is supposed to turn up after a week, again, in Athkatla, at night, possibly not in the Graveyard. Getting her to appear and actually take the fuggin claw w/o waiting required much trial and error.

C:SetGlobal("Ohh_Cabrina","GLOBAL",6) Appeared to be the correct flag to get her to take the claw and offer the Shroud of the Undying quest.
C:CreateCreature("ohhcabri") once again to get her to appear after you've set the flag.

Cabrina should turn up at the Copper Coronet to take the Shroud and finish SoA Hexxat's quests.

Notes on other quests:

Plenty of others have time requirements, but messing about with the Global Variables can cause many problems not immediately apparent potentially leading to crashes or corrupt files.

Some issues i have found are with the Ranger Stronghold quest, possibly because i tend to play Evil Characters and even with the Multiple Stronghold patch, and even if i do all the "good" options, it will just remove the stronghold from me w/o any warning. 1st i know of it is when i go back to see if the Mayor has a new quest for me since there is a known issue with the Child appearing then walking straight off w/o interacting with the party, instead of telling you to come back to Imnesvale to help them. I spent ages trying to console back my Cabin so i could finish the quest line w/o success, i read that it can be a good idea to simply chain-rest w/o leaving the Village until you get the complete quest line finished as a possible alternative if this keeps happening, and you are lucky enough to have kept an earlier save.

Personally i have never had a problem with the Paladin Stronghold, even being Evil, but as a rule i prefer to complete Anomen's and Dorn's quests before i get it, just incase either of their quest lines get bugged or it messes things up with the Stronghold.

Neera's quest has a few issues, you need to make sure you accept her into the party when you meet her in the Hidden Forest, otherwise you can't get into the Hidden Refuge. The implication from the text options are that you clear the Forest on your own and meet her there...not the case, at least not w/o massive console command tweaking.

The Where's Wilson quest from the Hidden Refuge is actually completed during Rasaads quest line, which you have to complete fully, and given that the Refuge quests cannot be handed in after the Attack by the Order it kinda means you need to bring Neera and Rasaad along for Rasaads quest, if you want to complete Where's Wilson anyway.

All other quests that i have not mentioned either do not have timers or console commands required, at least not in my experience.

Obviously there is a huge amount that you can do with the console commands, but this list is merely to help players like me who wish to know how to speed through time consuming NPC quests so they get the sense of completion, but w/o the often ludicrous waiting to do the quests "legitimately".

If i miss-typed anything or some commands are wrong let me know and i'll Edit.

modding bgee -- put files in data folder for bgee or in sod?

Hi, I have played these games modded for years but I am revisiting now with SOD installed, and will be playing BGEE through the SOD interface. Question -- if I am modding for a BGEE - SOD run through, where do i install mods if I am using the SOD interface to play BGEE? I have a BGEE directory from an older install and a SOD directory, each with its own data folder.

Also, since it is has been a little while since I have done this, am I correct in general -- that when I mod I need to set up the file in the data file? The one with the number (like 00768 or something like that)?

Thank you.

As an aside, does anyone use the Big World modding system and is it worth it?

Thanks!

Is the bard song nerf in 2.1 intentional?

$

I'm a little surprised no one else has asked about this.

BG:EE 1.3 and IWD:EE have an un-nerfed bard song that has a good range and is easy to keep cast on the whole party at all times.

BG:EE 2.1 has gone back to the old vanilla nerfed bard song range, where it is no more than 10 in-game feet, and constantly winks out on party members while walking around, even when the bard is right behind the suddenly unbuffed character.

This is very familiar annoying behavior of the bard song to me from the vanilla game. One of the things I loved about the EE's was that they made the bard song range very solid and easy to use.

Was going back to the old behavior intentional? If so, why? Or, was this an accident of upgrading that can be fixed in a future patch?

Anomen and Evil PC romance

$

I don't believe I've ever completed Anomen's romance in all my many playthroughs over the years, so I'm considering it as my next one, but I can't find an answer to whether he will romance an evil PC. Lawful Evil to be specific. Has anyone tried it? Is it possible, and if so, how well does it work? Are the conversations clearly written for a good or neutral PC, for example?

And a tangential question, are there any conflicts between him and Viconia? As far as I can find, there aren't, but I could have missed something.

[spoilers] Things to watch out for when importing a custom character into BG2EE?

$

I played through BGEE with a half-elf fighter/mage main char using exclusively bows. I'd like to continue with this character in BG2EE except:
- I'd like to skip SoD.
- I'd like to modify the character to be an elf instead, plus correct some mistakes in my initial choice of stats.

With that intent I exported my character from before I killed Sarevok and was playing around in the .CHR file, seeing how to modify its race and stats before importing in BG2.

Questions:
- Does it make a difference whether I import a character, or play through SoD to have it automatically imported to BG2EE?
- Can I simply change the race byte of the exported character and get the correct bow and sleep/charm resistance modifiers, or are they saved in different sections of the file?
- Any discrepancies that may happen due to the fact that I export my character *before* killing Sarevok and import it in BG2EE, vs. playing through SoD with the automatically transferred character?
- Also: I noticed my end-game character having some effects set in the exported .CHR file which don't appear in a freshly created and immediately exported character. Some story mode variable called "OHSMLOC". Does the presence or absence of this effect in the .CHR file make any difference when exporting/importing?

Thanks in advance. As you may notice, I'm quite the perfectionist when it comes to such things; I don't want to lose any gameplay content (dialogues etc.) just because I didn't want to play through SoD...

Best 3-man party?

Here's the challenge.

Rules:

* No dual or multi-classes. Try that on for size!
* Insane difficulty, then an HOF run afterward.
* Completionist; no dodging monsters.
* Clean run. No cheats!
* One character must be a female dwarf. For the sex legs.

I'm thinking something like Jester, Cavalier, Assassin. Not enough DPS, though. Probably create some interesting and annoying situations no matter what 3 you choose.

A comparison of Ranged Attackers in BG2

Warning: Incoming Wall of Text. Turn back now.

The Archer discussion recently, as well as my most recent Archer charname bringing his quest to a close, inspired me to crunch some numbers to create a base damage comparison between the various ranged classes one might be interested in trying. And since end-game comparisons ignore the entire journey to get there, I made comparisons at three different points: 300k experience, (i.e. fresh out of Chateau Irenicus with maybe one quest under your belt), 2.95m experience, (i.e. the old SoA level cap), and 6.5m experience, (i.e. late-game ToB). I've given each character appropriate gear for their level, and have excluded all ToB items from the first two comparisons, (including things like Firetooth that you could technically grab right away).

I've assumed all characters were imported from BG1 (so stats include tome boosts), and that they choose the good path in Hell, (so -1 dex there, and no +2 strength bonus). And obviously I'm withholding the Lum the Mad boosts until the final comparison. I'm also not writing up any Dart specialists because they're strictly inferior to the Shortbow-users, and I'm not writing up any Axe/Hammer throwers, because they get handily outperformed by the Dagger-tossers, (outside of Azuredge against undead, of course). I did include a Longbow and a non-LCoS crossbow at the 2.95m mark so you could see how much they suck compared to their shortbow/LCoS peers.

Also: yes, these are just damage numbers. No, a character's worth is not solely, or even perhaps primarily, determined by how much damage he can put out. Yes, I'm okay with that.

To avoid too much clutter (lol), I'll put the details of each character in spoiler tags and just list the raw damage per round (DPR) numbers in the post body.

300k Experience

Characters:
Level 9 Elven Archer with 20 dex, Tuigan Shortbow, and Arrows +1
Level 9 Elven Archer with 20 dex, Light Crossbow of Speed, and Bolts +1
Level 9 Half-Orc Kensai with 20 str, 19 dex, and the Boomerang Dagger
Level 9 Halfling Fighter with 20 dex, the Girdle of Hill Giant Strength, Arla's Dragonbane, and +2 bullets

All characters with appropriate Grandmastery

80.5 DPR - Kensai w/ Boomerang Dagger (1 THACO)
56.25 DPR - Archer w/ Tuigan Shortbow (0 THACO)
51.25 DPR - Fighter w/ Arla's Dragonbane (0 THACO)
47.25 DPR - Archer w/ Light Crossbow of Speed (1 THACO)

2.95m Experience

Characters:
All Archers are level 17 Elves with 19 dex and the Gauntlets of Weapon Skill. Bow-wielders have equipped Acid Arrows. Crossbow-wielders are using Bolts of Lightning.
The Kensai is level 19 with 18 dex, the Girdle of Frost Giant Strength, and no gloves, because Kensai.
The Fighter is a level 19 Halfling with 19 dex, gauntlets of Weapon Skill, Sling of Arvoreen, and +2 Bullets
The Fighter>Cleric is a level 13>15 dual with gauntlets of Weapon Skill, Sling of Arvoreen, and +2 Bullets
The Cleric>Fighter is a level 11>17 dual from the Priest of Lathander kit with the same gear
Both cleric duals pre-buff with Righteous Magic and DUHM. Additionally, the Priest of Lathander dual uses Boon of Lathander.

Again, all classes have the relevant grandmastery.

The DPR ranges with the Crossbows correspond to enemies making every save vs. spell and missing every save vs. spell. Actual damage will be somewhere in the middle.

132 DPR - Cleric>Fighter w/ Sling of Arvoreen (-11 THACO)
118 DPR - Kensai w/ Fire Tooth (-12 THACO) (+12 DPR with Kai)
100 DPR - Archer w/ Gesen Shortbow (-13 THACO) (+8 DPR with Called Shot)
97.5 DPR - Archer w/ Tuigan Shortbow (-10 THACO) (+10 DPR with Called Shot)
96 DPR - Fighter>Cleric w/ Sling of Arvoreen (-6 THACO)
90-110 DPR - Archer w/ Light Crossbow of Speed (-9 THACO) (+8 DPR with Called Shot)
86.0 DPR - Archer w/ Strong Arm Longbow (-12 THACO) (+8 DPR with Called Shot)
79.5-94.5 DPR - Archer w/ Giant Hair Crossbow (-11 THACO) (+6 DPR with Called Shot)
76.5 DPR - Fighter w/ Sling of Arvoreen (-12 THACO)

If under the effects of Haste:
165 DPR - Cleric>Fighter w/ Sling of Arvoreen
147.5 DPR - Kensai w/ Fire Tooth (+15 DPR w/ Kai)
128 DPR - Fighter>Cleric w/ Sling of Arvoreen
125 DPR - Archer w/ Gesen Shortbow (+10 DPR w/ Called Shot)
112.5-137.5 - Archer w/ Light Crossbow of Speed (+10)
106-126 - Archer w/ Giant Hair Crossbow (+8)
107.5 - Archer w/ Strong Arm Longbow (+10)
102 DPR - Fighter w/ Sling of Arvoreen
97.5 DPR - Archer w/ Tuigan Shortbow (+10)

6.5m Experience

All Archers are level 29 with 20 dex and Gauntlets of Extraordinary Specialization, *except* for the Tuigan user, who can do just as well with the regular Gauntlets of Weapon Specialization. All bow-users have Arrows of Acid, all crossbow-users have Bolts of Lightning.
The Kensai is level 34 with the Girdle of Fire Giant Strength, 19 dex, and Fire Tooth dagger. Still no gloves.
The Fighter is a level 34 halfling with Girdle of Fire Giant Strength, 20 dex, Erinne Sling +5, +4 bullets, and the Gauntlets of Extraordinary Specialization.
The Fighter>Cleric dual is level 13>31 with the same gear as the Halfling fighter, +DUHM and Righteous Magic to reach 25 str and 25 dex.
The Cleric>Fighter dual is level 15>27 with the same gear and buffs, 25 str and 24 dex, plus Boon of Lathander

For consideration with Whirlwind, I've also included an Elven Archer with Erinne Sling +5 and bullets +4, because GWW mitigates the biggest drawback of slings, being the loss of 0.5 APR due to no grandmastery. This is the highest damage output an Archer can get against enemies that require +4 weapons to hit.

I'm assuming all saves are made against Bolts of Lightning at this point, but expect Crossbow users to get a few extra points here and there when a save is failed, (+5 damage per failed save).

162 DPR - Cleric>Fighter w/ Erinne Sling +5 (-19 THACO)
142 DPR - Kensai w/ Fire Tooth (-20 THACO)
126 DPR - Archer w/ Gesen Shortbow (-20 THACO)
122.5 DPR - Fighter>Cleric w/ Erinne Sling +5 (-12 THACO)
114.75 DPR - Archer w/ Light Crossbow of Speed (-16 THACO)
112.5 DPR - Archer w/ Tuigan Shortbow (-17 THACO)
110.25 DPR - Archer w/ Firetooth +5 (-22 THACO)
103.25 DPR - Fighter w/ Erinne Sling +5 (-17 THACO)
If under the effects of Improved Haste, just double all those values.

For spike damage, here's the results with Whirlwind / Greater Whirlwind

360 DPR - Cleric>Fighter w/ Erinne Sling +5
355 DPR - Kensai w/ Fire Tooth +3
335 DPR - Archer w/ Erinne Sling +5
315 DPR - Archer w/ Firetooth +5
295 DPR - Fighter w/ Erinne Sling +5
280 DPR - Archer w/ Gesen Shortbow
255 DPR - Archer w/ Light Crossbow of Speed
225 DPR - Archer w/ Tuigan Shortbow, (though realistically, there's no reason to ever use WW over IH)
N/A - Figher>Cleric dual, (no warrior HLAs)

Key Takeaways for me:
* THACO is a joke. IIRC, Demogorgon has -12 AC. You're pretty much going to hit everything always, sans critical misses.
* Long Bows are clearly the worst, but if you want one for RP purposes, you're really only sacrificing 15-20% damage potential compared to Short Bows. Not necessarily the end of the world. If you want to get one, go with Strong Arm for the sweet +3 damage bonus.
* Slings start out competitive, but they quickly fall way behind. But really, they're about on par with Long Bows, (especially if you're willing to start as a Half Orc and go evil in Hell to hit 24 strength). Plus, a Halfling slinger gets armor, shield, *and* shorty saves, making him the best defensive ranged character. Why you'd need that much defense on a ranged character is another question entirely.
* Kensai deal the best sustained low-maintenance damage, (no or minimal pre-buffing). News at 11. Vhailor's Helm alone is able to put any other ranged character over the top for single encounters. On the other hand, your teammates will appreciate not having to fight for quality gloves.
* I don't know if they've changed the way that ammo stacking works in EE, but I've been overrating Firetooth. It's actually the worst of the four primary Archer weapons, (Tuigan, Gesen, LCoS), though it becomes the best when Whirlwinding. At the same time, I've been underrating Gesen's a lot. That 1-8 lightning damage is huge.
* Tuigan's is such a beautiful little bow. It can easily be the first item you grab out of Chateau Irenicus and the last weapon you ever use. It can't match the others in spike damage, but it doesn't care about the Gauntlets of Extraordinary Specialization, it doesn't care about Whirlwind, it's great with Smite, Critical Strike, Greater Deathblow. Great bow.
* Boon of Lathander is amazing. I really only included the Priest of Lathander on a lark, and he wound up running away with it. Prebuffing is a hassle and you really only get a turn before it all wears off again, but who would have thought that an oddball Cleric>Fighter dual would be the most damaging ranged attacker in the game? Someone other than me, that's who. I generally hate late duals, but the dual from Lathander to Fighter at level 15 strikes me as a fun solo. Upgraded Skeleton Warriors to tank for you, seventh level spells, and not too long of a slog to get your levels back if solo.
* The common theme here is anything that gives you extra APR will cause you to dominate damage comparisons. Again, it's not like this is exactly news or anything.
* The best argument for making a ranged specialist as your charname, IMO, is just how terrible all of the NPCs are at it. At 6.5m XP, Mazzy is only dealing 90 DPR with Gesen's, about 30% less than you do. Actually, at that point, Anomen + Erinne Sling is the best ranged NPC, provided you don't mind pre-buffing.
* I dismissed darts at the beginning of the post, but I actually think the Crimson Dart is really useful for Rasaad in the early levels to keep him from getting his fool self killed. And K'logarath (+4 throwing axe) can be a useful fallback for a ranged Kensai against enemies immune to +3 weapons; when Whirlwinding, it's virtually identical to Fire Tooth.
* Having just played an Elven Archer from start to finish through the saga, I can confirm they're totally viable. They trivialize BG1 and the first half of SoA, and they're a great class choice for anyone who's not a fan of excessive micromanagement.

Is 'Wild Surge: Dizzy' logical?

Hi guys,

I'm a bit new to the BG series and i'm currently looking at the Wild mage.

Everything in the Wild mage seems in OK for me, except that Dizzy effect. As of currently it causes 100% spell failure quite a long duration(over a turn) and its unblockable and undispellable - the only way to remove it is to wait for the full duration or do a normal rest(wish-resting doesn't seem to remove it).

It might be my inexperience in the games, but don't all status effects in the game have some sort of counter for them? I know that timestop is unblockable and undispellabe, but it makes sense to be so if its actually interpreted as an ultimate haste effect, besides it lasts only 3 rounds. Dizzy seems like something that should at least be heal-able.

For me it seems like some sort of oversight. To justify my way of thinking about it - I see that "wild surge: held" used to be also unblockable/undispellable, even though it was a clear bug instead of pure oversight, and was fixed.

What do you guys think?

Edit. The discussion is ongoing. The only real progress in the discussion is that Dizzy is probably an after effect of a unknown spell, with similar function of Haste-Fatigue. But still there is no explanation why Dizzy cannot be healed or generally cured/blocked.
